Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

You arrive at a prisoner-of-war camp circa 1941 to begin your internment as a prisoner in Germany. While there, you meet a variety of interesting characters from around the world. Soon you will devise a cunning escape plan involving the theft of German tools from the Germans' own living quarters. Prisoner of War includes three meticulously modeled, fully 3-D, historically realistic POW camps, including the infamous Colditz Castle. These camps offer rich, detail-packed environments, brought to life with outstanding lighting, weather, and other graphical effects.

The immersive game world is made vivid by the artificial intelligence of its population. Sophisticated detection, flocking, socialization, and other artificial life algorithms work together to create a living, breathing world of distinctively characterized inmates and guards. Your character is able to talk to anyone he meets, pick up and drop objects, climb fences and walls, crouch, crawl, mantle along ledges, peek around corners, tap on walls to distract guards, throw stones, use a telescope, and perform a wide variety of special actions using particular objects. An intelligent, context-sensitive action button system ensures maximum control intuitiveness at all times. It's possible to replay any completed level in an attempt to beat recorded escape times and earn new abilities.

4.0 out of 5 stars Prisioner Of War.......Superb!!, August 5, 2002
This review is from: Prisoner of War (Video Game)
Prisioner Of War is about a pilot, Captain "Lewis Stone" , who's aircraft is shot down by the Germans while on a bombing mission. He is taken to a temporary camp, where he is to stay for a certain duration. As you progress in the game, you are shifted to different camps, and the camps keep getting larger and more secured, reducing the possibilities of escape. The only flaw in the game is that there are no weapons, so its all a matter of stealth and strategy. Move out of your Bunker at night, cross the Danger Zone after being warned, youre shot at and eventually end up in hospital. In total, there are 5 missions, each with around 4 levels or sub-missions. Heck, it sounds easy, but, each mission is complicated enough to keep you engrossed in it for days. You have to abide by the time rules. In the game, each minute accounts for 1 Hour. There are 3 roll calls which you have to attend, irrespective of anything. If you fail to attend either the Morning, Afternoon or Evening roll call a search party will be notified to search for you. Its nearly impossible to escape them. During your stay in the camps, you will interact with several POW's who can either aid you in trying to escape, or can tell on you. So trust both your instincts and your friends!

There is a common word amongst all the POW's known as "Currency". It does not mean money, rather other goods such as cigarettes, keys etc.

The following pointers should help you decide wether this game is for you:

Graphics(9/10)-

Graphics are stunning. Lyp-Scynching is extremely realistic. From my experience, the game never gets slow or blocky at any point during the game.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Sound(8/10)-

The sound is also amazing. At night you can hear the guards whispering about their days work, the sound of your feet embedding themselves into the mud below, the birds chirping in the midst of the morning etc.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Gameplay(6/10)-

The gameplay is extremely slow. You have to follow the rules and regulations of the camps. Break them and youre in for it. No guns, no blood and no shooting!
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, its a slow game requiring a lot and I mean a lot of patience, something gamers these days certainly lack. That includes me too!!

If you are wondering how I know this all, simple. I have this game on my PAL version which came out quite a while back!!

4.0 out of 5 stars It Was Cancelled on the PS2!, August 19, 2002

This review is from: Prisoner of War (Video Game)
I got the X-Box version of the game several days ago but I fund it funny that most video game sites report that the PS2 POW was cancelled. So why does amazon.com still selling it? I wouldn't pre-order it on PS2 at all. I would wait until you we SURE that it was actually coming out.

The X Box game is fairly cool. Fair graphics and pretty good sound and easy to grasp gameplay. The main problem is that you will find yourself waiting for a certain time of day to come such as morning excersise. I woulg give this game a 7 or an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.

I thought that the reviewer who said it was superb was lying about playing the game but he wasn't. He includes a lot more information then I have time to include so if you have any reservations I recommend looking at the review thats under mine.

X-BOX owners should get this because we have no games but Halo and Morrowind.

PS2 owners should wait until they know its coming out because we already have several great games.

5.0 out of 5 stars POW, May 28, 2002

Wow. Sweet game, who wouldn't want to bust outta a Nazi camp. But is it just me or do both POW and Angel of Darkness copy off the Metal Gear Solid stuff. Yes u can take a peek from behind a wall, just don't get caught. If you do anything suspicous the guards will nab you. You can tell when your doing somthing weird when your heart beats rapidly (courtesy of the Dualshock 2). Well its gonna be good
