The acting wasn't great and the end was ridiculous...

This was awful from beginning to end. Four (4) points:
1. (Beginning) A sudden storm comes up "un-naturally" to uncover a lost pyramid (tomb) that was not on the landscape prior to the storm. Can you imagine how much sand needed to be uncovered to even see something buried under hundreds of feet of sand. Then imagine where the heck the sand went and why only the sand around the tomb was moved and nothing else got buried or hurt because of it.
You are lead to believe that someone or something created the storm that turns out to be the largest sand storm ever. No hint of who or what at anytime during the movie. I would think that anyone caught in a sand storm of this magnitude would most likely be flailed and buried in a hurry never to be seen again.
2. (Bad Guys / Good Guys & Gals) Acting was no where to be seen from EVERYONE. My goodness it was awful!
3. (Ending) You see the power come into the pyramid to awaken the sleepers, and at the last minute our bad guy gets SHOT while holding out his arms welcoming the power into the tomb which then causes the pyramid to collapse and destroying all within. Why? The power is not going into him and in fact at this point of the movie he really is of no value or effect to the awakening of the "sleepers" so why does his getting shot stop the "show"?
Of course the few good guys and gals escape to see the sun again. Yippee!
4. All of this takes us back to the title of the movie. The sun causes the sleepers to "sleep" and this is therefore their prison. You see hundreds if not thousands of the creature standing in a row looking up and frozen because of the SUN we are told. If so, then we have some very stupid aliens.

I'm talkin' suck times suck. Suck to the suckth power.

I watched the whole thing, in the vain hope that it would redeem itself.

Their entire effects budget was blown on a 60-second CG spurt at the end, and a guy shambling around in a...mummy suit.

I kid you not.

They must have spent all their money hiring Rhys-Davis, who I *used to* respect.

From the opening scenes, Egypt was started by aliens lead by Osiris. Their intent was to conquer the world, but somehow they got trapped and buried in a pyramid and can reactivate every 5,000 years when certain stars line up. There is a bronze key that is needed to open it, a bad guy, the professor and Mary Ann all go to the tomb at the right time etc.

The plot was boring. The science has horrible. A few things... There are no stellar alignments that take place every 5,000 years. Sirius was never a pole star. And you can't carbon date bronze, it has no organic carbon.

The movie attempts to be a combination of "The Mummy" "Stargate" and "Indian Jones." And not the good Indian Jones film, the one with the Crystal Skull. The film is too short and formulaic. The characters were shallow. The special effects were above Asylum grade, except for that one insect thing.

Might work for the kids.

Parental Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity.

This was a poorly made movie with poor acting. I usually like mysteries, but one was terrible and I never watched it to the end. Too boring.
