5.0 out of 5 stars The best diet/health book ever written
While it is not the most popular, The Pritikin Program will help anyone lose weight quickly while maintaining the proper nutritional balance. Especially good for those people interested in losing body fat. I managed to get down to 3% body fat and 130 Cholesterol level while following Pritikin. While you need not follow the program in its entirety, it is an...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but should be updated
This book had some useful information in it, although much of the material is 20 years old and I'm sure that we have better nutritional information now than then. For instance, Pritikin eliminates all oils including olive oil, and yet there is other literature that pushes the health benefits of olive oil.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really works!, January 18, 2000
I followed the recommended diet for Maximum Weight Loss plan and lost 10 lbs in 7 weeks. My cholesterol level dropped from 220 to 156 in that time also. I continued to follow the maintenance plan for over a year and kept the weight off. I just had a baby and plan to follow the plan again to get back to my goal weight!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lost 40 pounds, May 25, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Lost 40 pounds in one month to requalify on my Navy physical in 1982 on the Pritikin diet. I couldn't run a city block before starting it. By week 3 I was running 5 miles. Twice each year I went on the diet during my stint in the Navy to complete the physical readiness tests. At age 44 I ran the mile and a half in 7:54 and max'd out on the PRT. I had trained on the diet for 2 weeks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Health, September 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had been advised that this book was a great book if you wanted to lose the winter weight in time for summer, so this is when I bought the book from Amazon! It is - I picked the best stuff out and it works - it really does as well as being an interesting book about the human body and how it works. Good purchase for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as relevant today, July 6, 2010

I owned this book 20 years ago. My efforts to lose weight after quitting smoking seemed futile and I was ready for something drastic. The way of eating this book advises is drastically different from what I was used to. I was delighted to find that it worked. Sadly, my eating reverted to my old ways when I graduated from college. The good news: I didn't gain much weight back. Sadly, having now entered my 40's, I am again overweight and unhealthy, and again, am finding it seemingly impossible to lose weight. I'm hoping I can get myself into a place to put Pritikin's sensible suggestions into practice. By the way, though this book is out of print and I've had to buy it used, I much prefer the original by Nathan Pritikin to the version written by his son, Robert.

4.0 out of 5 stars BOOK WAS VERY HELPFUL, May 22, 2009
I read this book and put the plan to work and lost 9 lbs in 3 wks.
My doctor asked what I did, and I told her about this book and she said - GOOD - keep doing it-it is working.

4.0 out of 5 stars the definitive book about nutrition, way ahead of his time, June 13, 1999
By A Customer
Nathan was so far ahead of his time, people actually scoffed at his ideas about the link between nutrition and heart disease. Now we know much more than he did, but this basic overview makes more sense than any other book I have read on the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars DELIVERY ISSUES, April 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I did not receive my initial order. The supplier contacted me and reported the book was sent first class mail. It apparently is lost in the US Mail. The supplier has offered to send me another copy and will refund my cost. This has not yet happened.
