This review is from: Private Gold Coins and Patterns of the United States (Hardcover)
Very detailed information on the history of private mint coins from the days of the gold rush. However, I found the information on California fractional gold coins to be very scanty. A bit of a disappointment since it was the main reason why I bought the book. I wanted more information on the California fractional coins, but this book was lacking. The author then goes on to make the outdated claim that California fractional coins were never used for actually currency, but were just tokens. It has been recently uncovered though that California fractional coins were used as actually money. However, it is still an informative book on the history of gold rush coins, but not for California fractional coins.
