Enjoyable and entertaining,
By Cheryl (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Private Diary: Our First Year in Swinging (Paperback)
As the title indicates, this book is the diary of a couple's first year in the swinging lifestyle. I found it very realistic and so much fun to read, taking you through their first tentative yet also highly enthusiastic steps into swinging. There were many lessons learned during their first few experiences, with the author ready to quit, unsure he was suited for the lifestyle. This provides valuable real life information for those taking their first plunge into swinging. Swinging is not for everyone and there is comfort in knowing that most everyone has a rough time initially, with many emotional issues and a period of adjustment as they find out what works best for them and what isn't comfortable for them and they should therefore avoid. The book was very good at exposing many of the ups and downs that are encountered during swinging, social, physical and emotional. The latter half of the book provided some sexually explicit and highly erotic adventures, where the couple experienced a number of their longtime sexual fantasies, including various 3-somes, 4-somes, role-playing (e.g. a date with a hooker in a bar), squirting female orgasms, oral and anal sex. Overall, a very entertaining and enjoyable book!

Boring, Repetitive, Needs an Editor,
By JE (Hillsboro, OR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Private Diary: Our First Year in Swinging (Paperback)
I'm almost half-way through this book now, and find it's increasingly becoming more of a struggle for me to keep going back and reading more. Most of the book is a blow-by-blow (sometimes literally) account of the author's swinging experiences, with some comments about how he and his partner felt about the experiences thrown in.Anytime I read I find myself quickly becoming bored due to the sameness of the descriptions of their experiences, and getting really irritated with the author's habit of ending every other sentence with an exclamation mark! There is a serious need for a skilled editor here! See what I mean! I'm no psychologist, and maybe I'm just envious, but the author also seems to spend a lot of time and effort describing in repetitious detail his own (and his partner's) insatiable sexual appetites. How many times do I need a description of how much she squirts, how many times he humps in an evening, how big and hard he gets, and how often they make love when by themselves, including seemingly mandatory descriptions of their yells upon cumming and of course more exclamation marks!? I can enjoy and get off on good written porn, but this is not it. I've had a lot of swinging experiences myself, so I do know what it is like, and can identify with most of the author's experiences. On the other hand, I think they could be communicated in a much more skilled manner by another author. The more I read, the more I feel ripped off by the(...)price. All in all, I'm sorry I bought the book. There are other books and DVDs that do a much better job describing swinging experiences and emotions.

Swinging experiences,
By Swinger (Pittsburgh, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Private Diary: Our First Year in Swinging (Paperback)
This book is full of helpful information and is told from the viewpoint of an experienced swinger. (There are several other books I read years ago that were obviously not written by actual swingers. Journalists and outsiders cannot portray the firsthand emotional and psychological aspects of swinging that real swingers can.) The couple in this book take us along with them on their roller-coaster ride during their first year of swinging, from graphically erotic sexual encounters to emotional self-doubts and disappointments. I appreciated the honesty and candor the author used when describing the Lifestyle. Rather than sugar-coating everything and focusing only on the upside of swinging, the author gives a realistic view, including negative as well as positive experiences. Everyone is certainly not suited for swinging and this book provides enough food-for-thought to give every Swinger wannabe many different points to consider before taking the plunge. The author reveals many of the personal hurdles that need to be overcome to enjoy success in the Lifestyle, including performance anxiety, jealousy, insecurity, inhibitions and the critical issues surrounding interpersonal relationships at many levels of intimacy. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in knowing what swinging is really like.

Pathetic,
By A Real Lifestyler (Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Private Diary: Our First Year in Swinging (Paperback)
This man is pathetic. This whole book is only an attempt to boost his own sorry ego. His writing skills have much to be desired. The mere fact that he has betrayed fellow swingers he had met by using real names without consent in bogus scenarios is a serious violation of the rules of the Lifestyle. Funny that they didn't use their real names or the real names of people that may have been unlucky enough to really attempt anything with them. What goes around comes back to bite you though. They have been banned from some of the clubs and sites mentioned in this excrement of a book.

This book made me ill. It is NOT a true depiction of the swinging lifestyle. All it is is a diary of their experiences and their self promotion. There is so much more to the swinging lifestyle and community than sex parties. These people are not expreienced. It is merely their first year in the lifestyle. Hardly time to truly experience it to the fullest.

After reading this book I have to wonder if the author is really 52!! He writes like he is in 5th grade. This is a book that should entice people into the lifestyle, instead it repeals them! This book is made up of fantasies that only makes the author appear like a stud, when in reality he is the opposite. If interested in finding out about what life in the swinging world is about try another book that will give you real facts not fiction and fantasy of one man's deluded desires.

Informative,
By A reader (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Private Diary: Our First Year in Swinging (Paperback)
A Private Diary is great for us novices. It has lots of information about the Lifestyle, which I have wanted to know more about for many years. In it, there are also many experiences written about from the perspective of swingers, real ones. This book is full of stories about swingers, the good and the bad. It also has a lot of insight about what type of people swing and what to expect when and if you decide to. I quite liked the parts about what it's really like and how others have dealt with it. The author also touches on the subjects of how different swingers act and how to spot fakers and the like. As well as being informative, I found it to be entertaining to read.

Garbage and Lies,
By Dominica George (Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Private Diary: Our First Year in Swinging (Paperback)
I don't know why people couldn't put this book down. I had avery hard time picking it up. It's the worst erotica I have ever read. If you can get past the typographical errors, you'll be bored to death! The entire book is an attempt to boost his own ego, using names of real people without their consent and put them in his own fantasies.

Garbage,
This review is from: A Private Diary: Our First Year in Swinging (Paperback)
About this book and author - Since being in the lifestyle for many years my wife and I have been very fortunate in our experiences. We have been invited into many homes and attended many parties. It doesn't matter if you're a CEO of a large corporation or a bus driver all are welcome, it's a very level playing field based on trust, honesty, and just people getting to know people. Now the author of this book and his wife were also invited to some of these parties, homes, and clubs using fake names, Terry and Debbie. Turns out they're named Jerry and Susie. Then they move out of town and write a book using everyone's real names. What's that all about? Sometimes it's not what you do but how you do it. It's a shame Jerry never had someone to teach him some values. If this book was about the lifestyle that would be one thing, the truth is it's about a very short 52 year old guy with a Napoleon complex and the love affair he has with himself. He writes about how all women love him and all men are inadequate or oafs. If he was entered in a contest at a club and didn't win it was fixed in his opinion. That's the whole book. I just saved you $17 bucks. This is not a swinger's handbook. If you are already in the lifestyle or thinking of getting into it or just want to know more I would not suggest this book. It's trash!

Wow!,
This review is from: A Private Diary: Our First Year in Swinging (Paperback)
I had read several other books about swinging a couple years back, but this one has such a feel of reality without all the hype. I found it to be very eye opening and thought provoking.
