Chuck Chambers has been a private investigator in Florida since 1982. Before that he was in the Manatee County Sheriffs department, and before that in the US Marine Corps...He brought those experiences to his work as an investigator, and now enjoys the fruit of his work. He is constantly quoted and searched out in the Sarasota-Bradenton area for his comments and expertise on the mysterious cases that pop up from time to time. His book is nothing less than a treasure trove of information, advice and exposition regarding just about every area of investigation. If you are thinking of hiring a PI, or have concerns about privacy or asset protection, this is the book for you. You could save thousands of dollars just by reading the book and following Mr. Chambers' advice.

Good book , I highly recommend it. It is written by an experience private investigator with 20 years experience. Good examples of how to hide your assets, find someone, protect your privacy, etc. Also, check out another book similiar to this one, How to be Invisible by j.j. Luna

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Books, May 29, 2008
This book wins hands down between 'The Idiot's Guide to Private Investigation'. 'The Idiot's Guide...' leaves a lot of unanswered questions. 'The Private Investigator Handbook' goes into a lot more depth answering these questions suggesting the reader what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. This book is a must!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Well Written, Would've Liked More Specifics Though, May 4, 2009
This review is from: The Private Investigator Handbook: The Do-It-Yourself Guide to Protect Yourself, Get Justice, or Get Even (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is extremely well written for the lay person. It's as though a cowboy wrote it, which is fun for a book that is imparting information. And there is quite a wealth of information to be had in this book. More importantly, I like the angle the book takes. It's not only for those looking into private investigation as a career or some kind of reference, but also for the do-it-yourselfers of the world that will need some kind of guide. It's practical and quite humorous at times, which is very refreshing.

If I had one gripe about the book, it's that it tends to speak in generalities a bit too much for my taste from time to time. While making sure you're not spotted by the subject is good advice, it really isn't imparting information that helps you genuinely in any way without very deep specifics on how to accomplish this goal, and every now and then in the book, Chambers has a tendency to do that. But still, it's a great book for those looking into the basics of PI work.

I'd, of course, recommend Private Investigation For Dummies, which is surprisingly the most detailed non-pro book on PI work on the market (and maybe even the pro one's too).

The book was even better than I expected. It has very good, useful information. Each topic is thoroughly and clearly touched upon. Very little of the information would be outdated today (01/2008). This is the best book I've ever seen for people either cheating on a lover or wishing to catch a cheating lover. There's great information on protecting your identity and also on finding out information about others. There's also info on useful equipment that you might want to buy. This book was well worthing the money.

The "Do it Yourself" guide is just that. I appreciate the fact that the author is well aware of the limitations of a private individual trying to locate some of the more advanced information, and points the reader towards professionals.
