2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Don't bother to buy... the premise of the book was good, but the writing didn't flow and the conversations were stilted and didn't flow..... I was very disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Was this supposed to be a historical romance?, March 2, 2009
This review is from: Private Lives (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am normally a fan of Gwynne Forster but not this book. Private Lives should have a historical romance due to the ancient sayings from time past. Who uses lines like this "I am not in the mood to fence with you woman" or "Why are you trying me" and my personal favorite "Get in me". I forced myself to finish reading this book and I will be wary with any future books by Mrs. Forster.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!!!!, March 3, 2009
This review is from: Private Lives (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I agree with the other reviewers. This book was poorly written and choppy. Some of the chapters were so choppy, it was like sections of dialogue were missing.

After spending 5.99 I made myself read it. In PRIVATE LIVES by Gwynne Forster there were so many cuts in the book that the story was very hard to follow. Several chapters lost their meaning. I have read many of Ms Forster's books. This was by far the worse I have ever read. Why pay 5.99 for a book the size of the Blaze Books?? If I am paying $5.99 or more I expect a book of 350 or more pages

I would suggest Ms. Forster read romance books by Brenda Jackson, Rochelle Alers, or Lori Foster to see what 21st century women like to see in a male lead character.

I can't remember this author having such a horrible book. I honestly having even finished it. I'm the type that normally reads a book in two days tops and for some reason I've had this book for two weeks. I have no interest in finishing it. It is soooooo boring, it just makes you want to pull your hair out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Full of passion and romance, April 5, 2009

PRIVATE LIVES is the newest novel by one of my favorite authors, Gwynne Forster. This is a must read for anyone who's a fan of her work. If you like romance with a little of mystery, this is the novel for you.

Allison, a cookbook author, had a rough marriage and is now trying to make a better life for herself and her son Dudley. So she's moved to Indian Lake to get some distance from her abusive ex-husband. Brock is from a well to do family and once was a private investigator before he gave it up to open his own law firm. He's in Indian Lake to write a novel about his adventures from when he was a P.I. When he meets Allison and Dudley he's a goner. The sparks fly between Allison and Brock, and Dudley takes to him instantly. Brock stakes his claim early on, letting Allison know that she will be his woman, but he has his work cut out for him. Together, they must work through Allison's issues before they can be together. Despite all of this, they are a passionate couple and Brock is also a wonderful influence on Dudley.

The story takes place in Indian Lake, Washington, DC and Alexandria, VA. The setting worked for me because it explored the different locations. The dialogue is great and authentic to the characters, while the plot moves along at a moderate pace, keeping involved in the story. The romance is hot and sensuous; it had me engrossed the entire time.

PRIVATE LIVES was a wonderful read for me because it was full of passion and romance. I recommend it for anyone looking for a good, solid romance read. I finished the book in less than a day. I urge everyone to support this talented author and pick up PRIVATE LIVES. It was worth it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Make Use of Your Local Library, March 16, 2009
This review is from: Private Lives (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Allison has been on the run for some time, hiding from her abusive ex-husband. Dudley, her 5 year old son, doesn't even know where to call home. Allison plans to spend the next year living a secluded (nearly hermit-like) life in the Adirondack Mountains. But on her first night, Brock knocked on her door. Brock is an extraordinary man with a secret past and lovable dog. Dudley instantly took a liking to Brock and his dog. Even though both were trying to find themselves and complete books circumstances caused their paths to intersect almost daily. The next several months were a blur as they got to know each other their physical attraction grew strongly. Will the solitude of the woods be more than they can bear?

Forster has proven herself again and again in the romance genre, but this book is a disappointment. The characters are not well developed; the background story isn't well crafted; and the story doesn't have consistency or flow. The idea of family seems to be central to the story while the romance is secondary. With all this said, the story is a quick read that will keep you asking what problem will come up next. In these troubled economic times, think about checking this one out at the local library.

2.0 out of 5 stars Out of Touch, March 9, 2009
This review is from: Private Lives (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I believe this could have been a wonderful book. But Mrs. Forster needs to realize that people do not speak this way in the 21st Century. I just don't believe someone out there is saying get in me to there partner. Dudley was just too grown and not believable. I also had a problem understanding was Allison dad was he alive or dead, because at one point she was describing her ex-husband relationship with him and then she said he died when she was in her teens. The photographer he went from being Brock's best friend to his brother to his best friend. Sorry I got lost along the way and I think the author did also.

For the most part Private Lives wasn't that bad. What I found somewhat annoying was the fact that the ex-husband/stalker wasn't punished by law. Also, the main character Allison took a little to long decide to trust Brock when he did nothing but prove himself to be trustworthy. I thought it was fluff but a quick read. I didn't like the way the story ended either. Ms. Forster could've made the end more interesting.
