Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
This is a look at the personal stories behind the magnificent voices that have thrilled so many fans. The vocal stylings of Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras have exposed many new audiences to operatic singing. Now find out about the lives of these 20th-century troubadours--their rise from humble beginnings, the travails of show business, and their distinctive personalities. Marcia Lewis gives you the details you want, maintaining a respect for the artists she profiles, while dishing out the tantalizing stories that will interest her readers.

Review
Marcia Lewis, a reporter for the Hollywood Reporter, displays both insight and a weakness for melodrama. . .her prose [is] frequently florid . . . However, Ms. Lewis stops short of full-blown sensationalism. -- The New York Times Book Review, Michele Lutz

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money!, January 11, 2002
By operamaryc "operamarty" (DIAMOND BAR, CA United States) - See all my reviews
Marcia Lewis is a really bad joke for an author. All the information is lifted out of previous material available. Nothing is new here. She tries to make money on gossip and even fails at that. The pictures are OK but I doubt if any of those are original to this book either. Something for the pop media only; not for opera lovers nor fans of these three artists. The best of these men is their performance on stage and hopefully, that brought some new people to opera that may not have tried it without the 3 Tenors. There is so much more to all three of these men than Lewis' book. Skip it and read their own bios.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very sloppy research, February 20, 1999
By A Customer
As Jose Carreras is my favourite tenor, I immediately went to those chapters. All the text was completely lifted from Sr. Carreras's autobiography, and newspaper/magazine articles. A bit of hearsay & innuendo thrown in to give the book a "gossippy" feel. The same goes for the chapters on Domingo & Pavarotti, with the exception that Ms.Lewis would like us to believe that she had an affair with Sr. Domingo. If she is anything like her daughter, I'm sure That the Maestro would want to keep away.

Not even a personal interview. Well, I can't blame the gentlemen for keeping away. My 8yr. old daughter could have done better.

I spent £20 on this book. Still, it helps me to sleep on restless nights, and some of the Carreras photos are cute.

I can't wait until Monica publishes her expose.
