5.0 out of 5 stars A fast, fun, absorbing read!
I was the production editor on the hardcover edition of Ms. Lewis's book (summer 1996--Carol Publishing). I was not a fan of opera or of the three tenors prior to working on this book, but Marcia's enthusiasm and eminently readable style gave me an appreciation for the art and the artists. It was a pleasure getting to know her and working with her, which is not...

1.0 out of 5 stars Why bother?, September 18, 2002

Funnily enough, Ms. Lewis does have a daughter - Monica Lewinsky.
Other than camy appeal, this book has no merits whatsoever. Spend your money on some real opera recordings, you'll be glad you did.

Marcia Lewis is a really bad joke for an author. All the information is lifted out of previous material available. Nothing is new here. She tries to make money on gossip and even fails at that. The pictures are OK but I doubt if any of those are original to this book either. Something for the pop media only; not for opera lovers nor fans of these three artists. The best of these men is their performance on stage and hopefully, that brought some new people to opera that may not have tried it without the 3 Tenors. There is so much more to all three of these men than Lewis' book. Skip it and read their own bios.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very sloppy research, February 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Private Lives of the Three Tenors: Behind the Scenes With Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras (Hardcover)
As Jose Carreras is my favourite tenor, I immediately went to those chapters. All the text was completely lifted from Sr. Carreras's autobiography, and newspaper/magazine articles. A bit of hearsay & innuendo thrown in to give the book a "gossippy" feel. The same goes for the chapters on Domingo & Pavarotti, with the exception that Ms.Lewis would like us to believe that she had an affair with Sr. Domingo. If she is anything like her daughter, I'm sure That the Maestro would want to keep away.

Not even a personal interview. Well, I can't blame the gentlemen for keeping away. My 8yr. old daughter could have done better.

I spent £20 on this book. Still, it helps me to sleep on restless nights, and some of the Carreras photos are cute.

I can't wait until Monica publishes her expose.

1.0 out of 5 stars Trash, August 6, 2002

This review is from: The Private Lives of the Three Tenors: Behind the Scenes With Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras (Hardcover)
Garbage. This is the worst kind of puff, trash piece. Much of this information is culled from other sources. Not worth the time or money. Anybody really interested in the Three Tenors can find better and more interesting information elsewhere.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written; horribly edited, November 20, 2011

The earlier reviews speak for themselves. This book has little worth - never had and still, 15 years after publication, retains its full share of banality.

What amazed me was the horrible work of the editor(s). Duplications of facts, glaring faults of grammar and syntax and many spelling errors.

I wonder how a manuscript like this one manages to get into print - and then, once it does, who is responsible for the whole sorry project.
