'Private Parts:The Album'-Various Artists (Warner Brothers),
By
This review is from: Private Parts: The Album (1997 Film) (Audio CD)
Beside 'Beavis&Butthead Do America',this is like the ONLY other movie soundtrack I've really liked in the past several years. The Howard Stern story is outrageously funny.I got a big kick out of hearing the several breif dialogue bits taken from the movie. As for the tunes,I totally loved the Type O Negative track where they pair off w/Ozzy covering the Status Quo gem "Pictures Of Matchstick Men",Green Day covering The Kink's "Tired Of Waiting For You" and Porno For Pyro's new cut "Hard Charger".The Ben Stern Megamix is a work of near genius. There are also some summertime hard rock favorites here by Deep Purple,Ted Nugent,AC/DC and Van Halen.A nice find.

TOO HOT FOR RADIO,

First came the book, then this album, then the movie. The King Of All Media at his most hilarious. The soundtrack to the 1968 movie "Bonnie and Clyde" was like this album. Excerpts of dialogue from the movie. We start with some dialogue spoken by Paul Giamatti's character,Kenny "Pig Virus or Vomit" Rushton in the movie's final scene(the end credits are rolling during this scene). How dare he say "Howard Stern can kiss my ass in hell!"! This album features great recordings by Ozzy Osbourne,Ted Nugent,Van Halen,Green Day and the Ramones. There's TORTURED MAN performed by Stern and the Dust Brothers. Many of these dialogue excerpts are definitely too hot for radio airplay. There would be bleeps very often as required by the FCC. THE BEN STERN MEGAMIX is really silly. That Howard's father in "club" form. There are live versions of AC-DC's YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG and Cheap Trick's I WANT YOU TO WANT ME. I laughed so hard when I first heard the dialogue excerpts. One funny bone-tickler is where Giamatti angrily labeled Stern as "the motherf---ing antichrist". Totally awesome!

excellent new music matched with classic songs,

As soon as you hear Rob Zombie's colaboration with Howard, you know this is going to be all good. Instant energy (how about that chorus?) This soundtrack rocks. 'Matchstick Men' is beautiful, and the Manson track is one of his best. I really listen to the new music more, but the classic rock songs are also worth while.

Forget About it... You Don't Have Enough Stars!,
This review is from: Private Parts: The Album (1997 Film) (Audio CD)
If there was ever a musical document that mirrors the energy and power of The King Of All Media this is it.From it's opening rant from Paul Giamatti until it's climax, The Private Parts Soundtrack delivers with the explosion of a sledgehammer and never lets the listener up for air...much like Howard himself. The fact that Stern hand picked the selections on this disk is proof of it's assault. Just like Howard's interviewing style, the tracks here take no prisoners...

This is one of the greatest Soundtracks ever recorded.,

The soundtrack includes some of the most cutting edge music, with artists such as Porno for Pyro's, along with Howard Stern's Musical debut in his own song and a minor role with American Nightmare, featuring Rob Zombie. It also includes classic tracks from artists like Ted Nugent. Ozzy Osbourne also makes a strong showing on the Album, and there are some other excellent tracks from artists like Green Day.

Decent metal collection...,

Decent metal collection mixing today's music (Rob Zombie,Marilyn Manson, etc) with yesterday's (Ramones,AC/DC, etc.) Highlights are The Red Hot Chili Peppers hooking up with some rap dude and Green Day doing a carbon copy of The Kinks classic "Tired Of Waiting For You". Lowlights are Ozzy teaming up with Type O Negative with a horrendous cover of Status Quo's "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" and Howard Stern teaming up with The Dust Brothers...just awful.

This might not be the best soundtrack in the world, but it does succeed in three ways. One, it has good OLD rock like "Van Halen", "Cheap Trick", and "Deep Purple". Two, it has good NEW rock like "Rob Zombie", "Porno For Pyros", and "Type O Negative" with Ozzy. Three, and most importantly, it has clips from the movie. They're not all funny, but any fan of the movie, or show should enjoy them. Of course in typical "Howard Stern" fashion, the cd sleeve has almost nude chicks on it. There's alot of things to like about "Private parts".

The Howard Stern Rock album!,
By
This review is from: Private Parts: The Album (1997 Film) (Audio CD)
It's about time that the king of all Media actually make a record, but it's not all Howard on this soundtrack to the best comedy of the nineties but a little help from his pals that makes this album a good musical collection. On top of a lot of worthy rock tracks you get a series of good short clips from the film. Of course it would have been better had the clips but uncut and in their full form. It's not that they are edited to be clean. It's just that only teasing us with the first answer from "The Match Game" is just taunting. There are other great clips from the film like a new "Mama Look--A Boo Boo" poem. It's a good mix of comedy but could be more full. The songs are all over the map in style from a rap rock peace combining LL Cool J with members of the Chili Peppers. Also worth mentioning is the father of Heavy Metal Ozzy with the industrial Type O Negative on "Pictures of Matchstick Men". It's a great combination of early heavy rock riffs and new sounds. "Tired Of Waiting For You" is a great cover courtesy of Green Day. A very mellow alternative rock surprise. All kinds of classic tracks like Deep Purple's unforgettable guitar anthem "Smoke On The Water" to the punk bombast of "Pinhead" by The Romanes. Don't forget a very special live addition of "You Shook Me All Night Long" by the rock gods AC/DC. Even Howard lends his vocal talents to the literal monster rock sound of Rob Zombie on the sharply poignant "Great American Nightmare". The Dust Brothers make 1997 their year by working rock tune for Stern alone on "Tortured Man". Another great writing and this time courtesy of Stern and sidekicks. This is a good rock album but I think fans might want even more from Howard. If he was going to include clips, he could have put more of them and made them more full. Also, he should have chosen more "inside" stuff. "The Ben Stern Megamix" is great for fans that have heard Ben's songmanship for years, but not in "Club" form. It's great fun. I like the old rock hits and the reworking of others. Maybe the disc should have just been all like that and a separate one just with clips. This is a really good set, but Stern really can't please all here, but does a good job of keeping you interested.

I love this soundtrack. And I do enjoy Howard Stern. And that's why I enjoy listening to 'Private Parts: The Album.' It's a nice mixtape between some of Howard's funniest radio moments and some of the best classic rock/'90s rock songs around.
The Rob Zombie and Howard Stern duet 'The Great American Nightmare' is worth the price of the CD alone. Zombie is at his best, and Stern is at his funniest. And some classic rock gems are here as well. Ted Nugent's 'Cat Scratch Fever,' a live version of AC/DC's classic 'You Shook Me All Night Long,' the Ramones' classic album track 'Pinhead,' and Deep Purple's major hit 'Smoke On The Water.' Overall, you may love Howard Stern, or you may hate him, but you have to confess, if you are a classic rock lover, than his picks aren't too bad at all. Highly recommended for the Stern or classic rock lover. ENJOY!!! |
