Book Description

October 30, 2007
Finding her brand-new husband in flagrante delicto with another woman wasn't part of Julie Driscoll's plan for her lavish wedding reception. Now she's a bride without a groom, but she's determined to have a wedding night with someone. Her cheating husband's gorgeous brother will do just fine. Chris Dennison is everything his brother isn't, and his hard body is the stuff the steamiest sexual fantasies are made of...Chris isn't about to turn her down. After five years of dreaming about her, the chance to touch Julie's delectably luscious body is too tempting to resist. And when she follows him to the tropical resort he's built from the ground up, she insists hot, wet, skin-to-skin pleasure is all he wants. Now he just has to convince her that he wants more...

More About the Author

Like so many romance readers, my first romance novel was by Kathleen Woodiwiss - The Flame and the Flower, to be exact. I was thirteen. I spent the next month ignoring my friends while I worked my way through her back list. Shortly thereafter I discovered Judith McNaught, Johanna Lindsey, Karen Robards, Catherine Coulter, Shirlee Busbee among others, and devoured their lavish historical epics full of overbearing alpha males and the women who brought them to their knees. I was hooked. My high school teachers marveled at my ability to read romance novels under the desk and still score straight A's. I started to imagine myself, living in a cabin in the mountains somewhere, writing romance novels.

It took me quite awhile to pursue my dream. After graduating from Stanford with a degree in English Literature, I worked in a variety of not so interesting admin jobs before I began my career in marketing. It wasn't exactly my dream job, but at least my writing appeared on several web sites and in many software marketing brochures. Unfortunately I wasn't able to fit the phrase "and her loins melted like hot wax" into any of them.

During my stint as the world's surliest receptionist, I took my first stab at writing. The result was a very melodramatic western historical which reads like a bad Elizabeth Lowell rip off. It's currently languishing on my hard drive, forever stuck on page 330.

Then in fall 2001 I had an incredible stroke of luck and got laid off from my marketing job. I decided it was time to stop saying I wanted to be a writer and to actually give it a serious go. Fortunately my husband, a socially well adjusted alpha male, is a very generous patron of the arts.

Four years later, I sold my first book and now I'm pretty much living the dream of getting paid to write romance. I don't live in a cabin in the mountains, but I do live in a rural-ish town near San Francisco (hey, we have deer and bunnies, along with the occasional coyote) with my husband, 2 sons, and a dog who patiently listens to my dialogue and helps me work out plot points. When I'm not writing, I enjoy running, reading, cooking, and watching a brain numbing quantity of food network programming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot Caribbean Romance! (B+ Grade), April 5, 2008
This review is from: Private Party (Paperback)
Julie Driscoll thought that marriage to her boyfriend Brian Dennison would be the best thing life has to offer. She has always done what her father has wanted and feels by marrying this near perfect man, she would have the respect and maturity of her peers, rather than be judged as the rich daddy's girl most think her to be. But even before Julie can cut her wedding cake, she catches her new husband having sex with his assistant in a utility closet and decides she is fed up being the dutiful daughter. Julie will now live on the wild side and that starts tonight with finding a man to give her pleasure and revenge against her dirt bag of a husband who was never faithful to begin with.
Chris Dennison is Brian's half-brother and has been practically in love with Julie ever since they went to college together. He is beyond sick over the fact that Julie has chosen his brother over him. Chris was a well known bad boy and considered to be a mistake by his father even though he is trying to make a name for himself and was the best man at the wedding, Chris can't hardly wait to leave and go back to work at a his resort in the Caribbean. Maybe then he can forget the lovely Julie and the fact she is lost to him forever.
Things don't go according to plan and Chris is in shock when Julie comes to him at his hotel room. She proceeds to tell him what his jerk of a brother did and wants to have one night of passion with him. Chris is not one to refuse this woman and they have a wild night together they both won't soon forget. The next morning Chris leaves and Julie is astounded by her new found feelings for Chris and quickly follows him. Even though Chris acts like what he and Julie did was a mistake, all too soon they are loving each other under the hot Caribbean sun. Chris wants forever with Julie, and Julie in turn is falling in love with this man she has always cared for but always thought of as a protector and friend. These two are not sure if they can make it work even though the passion they have is all consuming and won't die.
Talk about one hot novel! Jami Alden can sure write a sensual love story that will have you reaching for a fan. Private Party is the perfect read for any fan of scorching sex scenes and two characters who are so wonderfully written. The emotion between Chris and Julie is intense and you wish the best for them. The pages come alive and the island atmosphere is thick, especially when Julie and Chris explore their new found sexuality with each other. I was very impressed by the skill and the story Ms. Alden has come up with. I have no doubt that she will be an important author in the erotic romance genre. This is my first read by this author and it certainly won't be my last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot, hot, hot!, November 6, 2007
This review is from: Private Party (Paperback)
I haven't read a sexy book in so long I definitely picked the right one. I was expecting some romance and hot sex and I got it plus all the scandal. It is one of the best books I've read. The sex scenes are so good you can't wait until the next encounter. I can't wait to buy another book from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars terrific heated romance, November 13, 2007
This review is from: Private Party (Paperback)
Before they married Brian Dennison was so nice to his fiancée Julie Driscoll that he swept her off her feet. During her wedding celebration Julie searches for her groom so they can cut the cake together. She hears some moaning from inside a broom closet; opens the door to find her new her husband, naked accompanied by his nude assistant; they obviously were doing hanky panky business. Leaving the cake uncut, Julie decides since her spouse looked elsewhere for his wedding sex so will she.

Julie selects the best man her brother-in-law Chris. He has fantasized about making love with her since he first met her five years ago. They share an incredible heat that surpasses his wildest dreams involving her. Afterward he returns to the tropical resort he is building; Julie knows a good thing and follows him.

This is a terrific heated romance starring two likable protagonists and a rat of a groom (making love with someone else on your wedding night is despicable). Readers will appreciate this torrid tale as Chris and Julie prove their room is much hotter than the tropics. Yet with all the erotic moments, Jamie Alden lightens her erotic tale with humor and some satire as ironically thanks to the cheater, Julie finds something sweeter (and saltier).
