5.0 out of 5 stars The Student Pilots Friend
Gleim's newest edition of Private Pilot Flight Maneuvers and Practical Test Prep is a great aid to the student pilot. It includes diagrams and pictures explaining the maneuvers that a pilot must be tested on in order to take their solo flight. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, not good
This isn't a bad book - it is filled with all of the important info but Gleim's presentation of the info is pretty bad. There are no color diagrams to help expain the instrument panel, runway lights, etc., none at all! The addition of these would greatly improve upon this book. Also, it doesn't seem that Gleim does much to help the reader understand difficult info -...

This review is from: Private Pilot Flight Maneuvers and Practical Test Prep (Paperback)
Gleim's newest edition of Private Pilot Flight Maneuvers and Practical Test Prep is a great aid to the student pilot. It includes diagrams and pictures explaining the maneuvers that a pilot must be tested on in order to take their solo flight. The best feature of this book is the section explaining common student pilot errors, so that you know what not to do in the cockpit. It is seperated in sections that are based on the test standards that the instructors follow. This allows you to go over certain areas that you have difficultly with. A very good buy if you have not taken your solo flight yet. If you have taken the flight already, the book is not much more then an update on older versions, it simply has some updated material on the rules and test standards, and is not worth it if you have a previous version that is not more then a year old. But for the rookie pilot, or an "old salt" wanting to read up on current changes, this book is a must.

This isn't a bad book - it is filled with all of the important info but Gleim's presentation of the info is pretty bad. There are no color diagrams to help expain the instrument panel, runway lights, etc., none at all! The addition of these would greatly improve upon this book. Also, it doesn't seem that Gleim does much to help the reader understand difficult info - explanations aren't clear and frequently hard to follow. I am a teacher and have multiple graduate degrees so it's not that I can't understand the material, it's just that Gleim doesn't seem to go the extra mile.

BUT, it does have all of the necessary info, and only the necessary info required to pass the written. I suppose that's a check on the positive side.
