Editorial Reviews

The third outing from Lyn Leon, a transatlantic alliance consisting of former Steely Dan collaborator and NYC vocalist extraordinaire, Carolyn Leonhart and the two Swiss percussionists Stephan Diethelm and Matthias Eser. Private Pop also features the talents of drummer and programmer Marco Agavino, who co-produced some of the songs, bassists Wolfgang Zwiauer and Marco Blöchlinger and drummer Kaspar Rast, whose congenial play represent the basis of the songs found herein.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smoothjazz.com Review, December 1, 2006

This review is from: Private Pop (Audio CD)
PRIVATE POP is a cool, sensuous ride from beginning to end with an ambient of calm and intriguing beats that fall over sophisticated, urbane lyrics and robust vocals. Lyn Leon is singer Carolyn Leonhart along with masters of sound, Stephan Dietheim and Matthias Eser. This is the third release from the transatlantic trio... Leonhard resides in New York, while percussionists Dietheim and Eser make their homes in Europe. Ms. Leonhart has toured and recorded long enough with world-renowned rock/jazz ensemble Steely Dan to have won three Grammy Awards with Donald Fagen and Walter Becker's outfit. This deep, profound musical journey borrows elements from jazz, ambient, lounge, and pop and mixes in a very unique sound that is essential to the landscape of PRIVATE POP... glass instruments. Seductive sound patterns created by rubbing glass create a kind of floating and hovering sound, while glass marimbas offer a surprisingly bright sonic ingredient. Many of these instruments have been specially designed and developed for Lyn Leon in co-operation with the glass-blowing works at Hergiswil. The blend of superb musicianship, glass instruments, rich vocals and penetrating lyrics is the perfect recipe for nepenthe. Favorite tracks for SmoothLounge.com Radio include the warm, "Lonely Room," the captivating "Tomorrow," the intriguing, "Opposite Of Me" and the expressly direct, "Little More." Download now and get personally familiar with PRIVATE POP. ~ SANDY SHORE
