What more can you say about PRIVATE RESORT than SEX?!?!? The opening scene contains more nudity than a topless strip club! Wanna know what the plot is? Well, after watching the first 5 miutes of the film, I figured it out. Ben (pre-Northern Exposure Rob Morrow) and Jack (then unknown Johnny Depp) spend a summer at a private beach resort, and they have only one thing on their minds: sex! Why wouldn't they? There's only about 50 half-naked women running around and approximately 7 men! Plenty of girls to go around! But of course Ben the nerd has his heart set on finding his one true love. Jack the player just wants to get laid. But what 80's teen movie would be complete without these two guys stripping down as well?!? Were you disappointed that Edward Scissorhands didn't show a little skin? Well get ready for "In the Buff" Johnny. And is that nudie patootie over there Dr. Joel Fleischmen from "Northern Exposure"? Yep. I'll bet Rob's wishing he NEVER made this movie. I guess that's why he's taken on more serious roles lately, like in LAST DANCE and THE DAY LINCOLN WAS SHOT. Mr. Morrow has more nude scenes than Johnny! Luckily Rob looks just as good as Johnny does in this movie. Yep, Rob runs in his birthday suit through the hallways of a very prestigious hotel, and runs into some trouble with a jewel thief trying to get his hands on a precious diamond necklace belonging to one of the guests staying at the hotel. In fact, Morrow outshines Depp in his movie debut. If you want classic Morrow and naked Depp, you'll find it on PRIVATE RESORT!!! END

I have to say, at the very beginning I did not expect much from this movie. Every scene in it reminded me of similar scenes from earlier comedies of the same type. Nonetheless, as I watched, I found myself smiling, then chuckling, then laughing, and finally howling. Toward the end I was on the floor laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. There is no originality in this film, but there is plenty of humor. Lots of nudity, too, in case that matters. If you like to laugh and are not offended by naked girls, this one is a hoot. Check it out.

Ahhhh...This is what everyone who grew up in the 80's would say. A very funny real cute and yet sort of romantic type of movie. This is when Johnny Depp was still new in the movie industry. I think even Johnny himself would love to see this movie again released on DVD. I think each and every one of us older now generation reminisce the earlier days when we were all still teens trying to pick up or meet some girls at the beach. If some of the ladies out there young and older are still in love with JD they would definitely fall inlove with this movie. This is a Classic! Sony! Get this out on DVD! I would definitely buy it!

This movie is an all time favorite. Me and my brothers watched this movie hundreds of times since it's release in '85. When I first saw Depp in 21 jumpstreet I was like "That's Jack". I've been a Depp fan ever since. The movie itself is hilarious. Everyone remembers titles such as REVENGE OF THE NERDS and PORKY'S but this was and '80's movie that was slept on. Of course Depp turned into a very, very good actor and unlike alot of today's stars his old movies like this one weren't bad. Even Andrew "DICE" Clay is in it before he was "THE DICEMAN".Hector Elizondo is in it as well as the infamous MAESTRO. He's hella funny! If I were you I'd watch it but either way this movie is a family classic! Oh yeah I was only 9 years old when I first saw this. Don't let your kids see this!

I ordered this movie and actually mistook it for "Hot Resort" Same year (1985) and almost the same name with a similar setting. Private Resort was pretty good, had it's moments, and just kept you wondering what was going to happen next. It was one of those mid-80s teen on the beach flicks, so watch it if you don't want drama or horror.

I loved this movie! It was making me laugh out loud- I hope it comes out on DVD because it definitely is an 80s classic.

The 21 year old Johnny Depp appears here as one of two teens on the make at a Florida resort hotel - their only wish is to get laid. Complications ensue. Nothing new here - situations evolve out of classic farce and slapstick encounters. Both Rob Morrow and Depp expose their butts in a few sequences and there are more exposed women's breasts than in any other commercially released film I've seen. There is the inept jewel thief, the lecherous waiter with designs on the sweet young waitress and a dotty matron.

Morrow manages to be obnoxious and Depp merely cute. He isn't called upon to create a character here - it was after all his first leading film role and only his second film appearance.

There are a few continuity errors probably due to editing decisions but only one stands out (Depp manages to bed his girl but we don't see anything of the encounter the night before, only waking up the morning after).

Tony Azito and Hector Aleandro are amusing as the frustrated security director and the jewel thief, but the film is stolen by Dody Goodman as the dotty matron. Watching her throw herself at a barber in the bushes after accidentally downing a handful of quualudes and attempting to thwart the theft of her diamond with a number of karate moves bring the only real laughs in the film.

To summarize, an amusing teen age sex farce with lots of exposed skin, but nothing more.

This movie is a 80s comedy that is halirious and DESPARETELY NEEDS TO BE REISSUED ON DVD!!!!! All the other film studios are releasing 80s movies on DVD, BUT NOT COLOMBIA/TRISTAR PICTURES! I cant believe that it has been out of print since 1993. Come on 10 years!? We need to beg colombia/tristar pictures and sony, who owns them. To reissue it on DVD. If we beg people! we will get results! Also check out and beg them to reissue just one of the guys, and loverboy on DVD. Those movies are also 80s hits that they need to reissue. We have seen last american virgin re-released by mgm. Now we need tristar pictures to release these! Please release on DVD!!! Thank you!

This movie was easily one of the greatest movies of the 80's. The fact that it hasn't been re-released yet when so many other less profitable movies have been, is a shame. If there was anyone involved in the decision making process at the big movie companies that grew up during the 80's, this movie would already be out. PLEASE RELEASE IT!
Johnny Depp and Hector Elizondo are a couple of the main characters, and even Andrew Dice Clay, along with tons of actors before they were huge. Everytime I bring this movie up I wish, I had a copy to show to people that haven't seen it.

PRIVATE RESORT is the kind of movie that was geared towards young adult audiences in the mid-80s when sexual awareness and exposition were the hot ticket in theatres. However, I'm sure this film is one that Johnny Depp, Hector Elizondo and Rob Morrow aren't proud to have on their resume.
The movie's plot is slim, and neither Morrow or Depp have any screen presence in this early stage of their careers. Elizondo tries gamely and pulls off a few laughs, but he's not at his best either. Most of the film's laughs come from Leslie Hope as a slightly off kilter cosmic bimbo; Dody Goodman as a dotty old lady who knows karate and Tony Azito as a bumbling hotel security guard. There's lots of slapstick, some of it works, most of it doesn't. You can do better, folks.
