Wonderful Ending!,
By "intentaccess" (Boca Raton, Florida USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Private Scandals (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is a very well written murder mystery mixed with romance that we love Nora Roberts for! Deanna Reynolds and Angela Perkins are basically in competition. Deanna was a news reporter who then turned to talk show host to replace Angela's spot after turning Angela's job offer down. Something Angela never forgets. You fall in love with Deanna and she manages to find love along the way herself. She does have somebody stalking her all the way through. The ending was great as I didn't know for a minute the "who done it " and was very surprised. This was a great book and truly Nora at her best!

A great read!!!,

There was never a disappointing moment while reading this novel. Roberts delivered on all that the critics have praised her for: passion, suspense, and the realistic portrayal of the underground world of television. Deanna and Finn were such a believable pair - she, the perceived to be naive and unsuspecting star who was in danger, he, the charasmatic hero who would not only try to protect her from the hardknocks of the world, but educate her about it as well. However, the novel possessed one minor flaw. Of course, I will not give the perpetrator's identity away, but it became quite evident who was behind these crimes. In my opinion, Roberts did not do a very effective job in masking it. Overall, I loved it.

A gripping read,

"Private Scandals" is a well-crafted murder mystery with a good dollop of Nora Roberts brand romance as well. Deanna Reynolds, a news reporter-turned-talk show host, finds herself the target of a stalker's obsession, and must try to uncover her stalker's identity before anyone else around her -- or even she herself -- turns up dead. Along the way she finds love and romance with a fellow newsman, and in so doing unwittingly triggers her stalker into desperate action.Readers will fly through this nearly 500-page read as they race to the finish to either figure out who the stalker is or, as was the case with me, to see if their suspicion was correct. For some reason I was confident very early that I knew who this person was, but knowing didn't keep me from staying up until all hours to verify it. This was an extremely well-written and very entertaining novel.

My Favorite,

Of all the books Nora Roberts has written this one is by far my favorite. Deanna Reynolds is a reporter trying to make her way into her own talk show. Finn Riley is a reporter who travels the world to get the latest scoop. Deanna finds herself being stalked, with Finn by her side to help her through it they embark on a journey of murder and deceit. With all the twists and turns you find yourself anticipating how they will catch Deanna's stalker while discovering each other. They manage to do it with only a few bumps along the way. I would give this book 7 stars if I could.

This was one of the first Nora Roberts books that I read and I am somewhat disappointed. All though I thought that the book started out all right, I think that it dragged in certain spots and became very predictable. Her books came highly recommended by a close friend so I think that I will give a few more a shot. If I knew more about the glamorous life of tv stars this book may have appealed to me more.

A Delightful Read!,
By Sophie (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Private Scandals (Mass Market Paperback)
"Private Scandals" by Nora Roberts is an absorbing novel that provides a fascinating view of the world of daytime talk shows. This book will captivate readers everywhere, as Nora Roberts once again proves why she is my favourite romance author!Deanna (Dee) Reynolds is a beautiful, lovable, and ambitious newswoman turned talk show host. Her popularity and ratings are rapidly increasing, much to the dismay of her ex-mentor and rival, the attention-hungry Angela Perkins. Angela is past her prime, and she is desperate to remain #1 in the ratings and ruin Deanna in the process. To add to Angela's bitterness towards Deanna is the fact that Dee has begun an exciting new romance with Finn Riley, Angela's former lover! The romance between Dee and the ultra sexy Finn is provocative and fresh. Dee is a sweet yet determined heroine who readers will surely fall in love with. And who wouldn't want a man like Finn? As the story progresses, Deanna soon finds she has bigger problems than a catty rival who plays dirty. An obsessed fan who has been sending her unsettling notes turns violent, as people who have hurt or upset Deanna in some way start turning up dead. Now Deanna must watch her step, or she herself may end up in the hands of an obsessed madman! This book will surely entertain and satisfy you. The characters are all realistic and intriguing, and the mystery is suspenseful and thrilling. This is a truly enjoyable and well-written book, so sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Scintillating Scandals,
By Terry A. Benedict-Devine "Terry" (Barnegat, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Private Scandals (Mass Market Paperback)
A murder mystery set at the scene of the glitz and glitter of show business. What more could a reader ask for in the way of sheer entertainment. Written only as Nora could, Private Scandals begins with a murder and then flashes back to begin the buildup of the plot. Deanna Reynolds, TV news reporter for Chicago-based Midday and hostessing her own little segment of Deanna's Corner and Finn Riley, major international news reporter are our main characters. When Deanna decides to branch out and try her very own talk show, in direct competition with her not-so-gracious mentor, Angela Perkins, someone out in TV land decides he/she is obsessed with her to the point that no one else can go near her. Finn, being the typical mucho male figure in the story becomes enchanted with our star and is determined to protect her at any cost. There are a cast of characters - co-workers at the network and friends, who become suspect to the reader as possible threats to our heroine. As other reviewers have made it a point to say that the villain was obvious, I must say I was totally surprised by the outcome. I have read many Nora Roberts books including the entire J.D. Robb series to date, and I was completely taken by surprise by the identity of the stalker. I would definitely recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a "who done it" tale with the lush background of show business and the trials and tribulations of the climb to the top of the ladder of success.

Worth Reading,

This review is from: Private Scandals (Mass Market Paperback)
I've recently discovered and began to enjoy Nora Roberts' books. 'Private Scandals' kept me entertained, but the identity of the stalker/obsessive fan/murderer was easy to figure out, since I'm HORRIBLE at solving mysteries and my guess turned out to be correct. The book did drag at spots, certain things became repetitive and were more in depth than necessary. The abundance of sex scenes became annoying. I don't think that for normal couples, every little kiss morphs into a ridiculously passionate lovemaking session, but then again, this was in part a romance novel. But these parts were not necessary to the plot and I began skimming over them after a few. Other facets of the book were somewhat far-fetched, but again, it's fiction. Worth reading, but check it out from the library instead of purchasing the book.

Least Favorite Nora Roberts Book,
By
This review is from: Private Scandals (Mass Market Paperback)
I LOVE Nora Roberts books. I rarely find one I don't enjoy. Although I enjoyed this book, I think it was my least favorite book. Mainly because I found the characters hard to associate with. The larger than life TV star using the ever grateful reporter seem very implausable to me. The long distance romance between the two lovers seemed just as implausable to me. However, it is a good book in the true Nora Roberts fashion- not too mushy, full of true to life love and a great mystery.

This review is from: Private Scandals (Bookcassette Edition) (Audio Cassette)
This is probably my favorite book of all time not just my favorite Nora Roberts book. I have read it cover to cover about 50 times and I still go back for more. I have read almost every single book Nora Roberts has put out, and I rarely find a dud. This books hero and heroine are not only part of an interesting romance but the murders committed around them lead to an exciting conclusion. If you want a book you will pick up over and over buy this book. I know it is out in paperback run to the bookstore and buy it.
