This book lists almost all the private secondary schools in the country, providing all revevant facts in a standard format for ease of comparison. It is useful for (1) identifying all private secondary schools within a given geographical ares; (2) finding out how much any given school is going to cost; (3) determining a school's endowment; and (4) gaining a brief view of course offerings. It generally does not rank the schools.

It is probably best used as a starting point for further investigation.

NOTE: One reviewer of a different edition complained that it did not even include Exeter, considered by many (me included, I did not go there) to be the finest private secondary school in the country. It does, but it includes the school under its formal name, Philips Exeter Academy. Its sister school, Andover, is listed as Philips Andover Academy.
