4.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining look at privateers in the Revolutionary War, July 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Privateer (Privateers and Gentlemen, Volume One) (Paperback)
A good beginning of a series that, to my knowledge, lasted 3 volumes. Markham and Sons, a corporation of brothers, are Yankee privateers working (ostensibly) to support the Continental Navy in the fight against Great Britain. Vivid action scenes, interesting characters, and solid writing make this book recommended for fans of Bolitho, Hornblower, Ramage, Aubrey and Maturin, et al. I look forward to reading its successors, "The Yankee" and "The Raider".

5.0 out of 5 stars Revolutionary War at sea, August 31, 2005
By
This review is from: The Privateer (Privateers and Gentlemen, Volume One) (Paperback)
The first in a series of 5 dealing with the Markum family at sea during the birth of our country. Insights into the politics of the time with plenty of sea action to move it along. I reccomend all 5 in the series. Too bad he didn't write more.
