5.0 out of 5 stars The Privilege of Being Catholic
As an active Youth Minister for the Catholic Church I find Fr. Lukefahr's writing style easy to read and understand. I have used "The Priviledge of Being Catholic" extensively for preparing for R.C.I.A. classes and others that I teach. Also Oscar's book is easy to lend out to parents who have youth who ask tough questions that the parent's do not feel...

2.0 out of 5 stars Read very carefully
The way that this item was presented was very confussing and I ended up ordering the wrong book. What I needed was the manual not the work book, so now I have two workbooks and only one manual. I made the mistake but maybe the way they were presented, both books look very much alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Privilege of Being Catholic, December 28, 1999
This review is from: The Privilege of Being Catholic (Paperback)
As an active Youth Minister for the Catholic Church I find Fr. Lukefahr's writing style easy to read and understand. I have used "The Priviledge of Being Catholic" extensively for preparing for R.C.I.A. classes and others that I teach. Also Oscar's book is easy to lend out to parents who have youth who ask tough questions that the parent's do not feel comfortable answering.

Oscar's use of the Sacramental Principle to explain alot of the Catholic teachings that Non-Catholics often attack, helps the non- theologian to practice good Apologetics. A workbook is also available that helps a teacher to use Ocsar's teachings in a classroom setting. I highly recommend "The Priviledge of Being Catholic" to any professional lay or religious minister in the Catholic Church and those who question the biblical basis of Catholic teaching and practices.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for both Catholics and non-Catholics, November 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Privilege of Being Catholic (Paperback)
This book is a great source for Catholics looking to enrich their faith and for non-Catholics who have questions or misconceptions about the Catholic faith. It really explains in such great clarity the richness of the Catholic faith and how the Sacrimental life is used to live the way that Jesus wants us to live as a part of his Church. This is a must have for any Catholic who is serious about living a Catholic life and for any non-Catholic who needs clear, objective answers to his/her questions. This book ranks up their with Karl Keating's "Catholicism and Fundamentalism."

5.0 out of 5 stars The Privilege of Being Catholic, March 18, 2006
This review is from: The Privilege of Being Catholic (Paperback)
Father Oscar uses the Sacramental Principle to help us understand the Catholic teachings for those with no theology background. He does this in an easy to read overview on the history and dogma of Church teaching. The book starts with creation and how God gave us a wonderful world that could be paradise. But he also gave us free will, which we used to disobey God. And through our choice, we introduced sin into the world.

The book explains how Jesus intoduced the Sacraments to us and what they are. How God speaks to us through the Bible and is in contact with us via the sacraments. Church traditions are based on time-honored methods we have been using for years. And sacred traditions are based on the official teaching of the Church. Some truths of God have been available to us since we walked the earth. The book then covers Catholic Prayers, the Church's position on saints and guardian angels. And a short history of the Church.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book/ NO LONGER AVAILABLE-BUYER BEWARE, July 19, 2007

This review is from: The Privilege of Being Catholic (Paperback)
This gentle, humble man has written a masterpiece of a book. He is so complete, straightforward and loving, covering deep theological truths with simplicity. He's not trying to impress us with his education, he's trying to teach EVERYONE what we need to know for fullness of life, and might not have ever learned. This should be the required RCIA text, as far as I am concerned, and read with increasing joy by all who seek the truth. You don't have to be in a class, he is a master teacher. You can learn more at [...], if you want. Amazing man, amazing book. Thank you, Father Luke, and God bless you.

UPDATED 4/19/09 This is no longer the book, but a workbook that is useless without the actual book. There are actually 2 titles - The Privilege of Being Catholic and The Privilege of Being Catholic Workbook. The product details does list the publisher - Ligouri - and "workbook edition" which is still misleading. None of this would be a problem if Amazon used THE ACTUAL TITLE of the product they are selling. Shame on you, Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrong Item, March 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This listing is for the WORKBOOK, not the actual paperback. It is useless without the actual book. It is also overpriced, when purchased it was $4.95, but the workbook's price from the publisher is listed as $2.95. Make sure you are ordering the correct item.

1.0 out of 5 stars Never received the book, December 14, 2008
By
Just an opinion about my experience with the order. I spoke to 2 different people on the phone and never did get the order straight so I gave up. I was sent The Privilege of Being Catholic workbook not the Book.

They kept sending me more workbooks, I sent 2 back and only received credit for one. Still do not have the book.
