Editorial Reviews

These two (2)documentaries explore the scientific evidence for intelligent design and purpose in the universe... and in DNA. In The Privileged Planet, Earth is revealed as far more than the product of time, chance, and random natural processes. We now know that a rare and finely tuned array of factors make Earth suitable for complex life. We depend on our planet's oxygen-rich atmosphere, its large moon, its planetary neighbors, and its precise location within the solar system and Milky Way galaxy. But the story does not end here. For, the same factors that make a planet like Earth hospitable to life also provide the best conditions for scientific discovery. Through stunning computer animation, interviews with leading scientists, and spectacular images of Earth and the cosmos, The Privileged Planet explores a startling connection between our capacity to survive and our ability to observe and understand the universe. A connection that points directly to the work of a creative mind and plan. Unlocking the Mystery of Life transports you into the interior of the living cell to explore systems and machines that bear the unmistakable hallmarks of design. Rotary motors that spin at 100,000 rpm... a biological information processing system more powerful than any computer network... and a thread-like molecule that stores instructions to build the essential components of every living organism on earth. Unlocking the Mystery of Life documents how scientists are abandoning naturalistic explanations for the origin of genetic information and looking to theories of design for new answers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Evolution Has Credible Rivals, August 31, 2006
This review is from: The Privileged Planet / Unlocking the Mystery of Life 2-DVD Set (DVD)
The one-note song of evolution has dominated the origins scene so long that evolutionists no longer think they have to answer tough questions that challenge the theory. These fine videos asked logical, probing questions that need to be addressed, not simply dismissed. When we could have a symphony of ideas being discussed and debated, why do we continue to settle for the monotony of the "Our way or the highway" attitude of so many evolutionists? Science should be about challenge, discovery and growth, not stagnation and intellectual bigotry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Salient, Provocative, and Riveting!, August 22, 2006
This review is from: The Privileged Planet / Unlocking the Mystery of Life 2-DVD Set (DVD)
I am an educator with a Masters in Education as is my wife. We found these riveting. We have watched them over and over and shared them with a number of others. I cannot remember my favorite lines and our set is currently loaned out, but suffice it to say that we highly recommend these.

If you know nothing about Intelligent Design these are a great starting point. We have found that too many people have discounted this movement and lumped it into the Creationist camp without doing their homework.

This is not a Creationist viewpoint, but it certainly points out that evolution as a theory is archaic (remember that a naturalist with little experience postulated the theory 150 years ago. The theory has always been embroiled in controversey and as we have deepened our knowledge evolution has had to be modified so that now it is an idea with many defectors and factions.

ID asks questions which are cogent and salient even if the demagogues of evolution find them provocative. Anyone who refuses to look at the challenges to there positon or beliefs must question the truth of them.

We found the series very enjoyable and think you will as well.
