4.0 out of 5 stars A Heartwarming Historical! February 17, 2012
Format:Paperback
In Prize of My Heart, Lisa Norato has penned a heartwarming tale in the aftermath of the War of 1812; a tale of deceit, betrayal, honor, and love. After searching relentlessly, Captain Brogan Talvis, one of the bravest privateer captains during the war has his heart set on but one goal; to retrieve the son his late wife abandoned several years before. He discovers that his son was adopted by a wealthy shipbuilder, and is being lovingly taken care of by the man and his lovely daughter, Lorena Huntley, and intends to spirit his son away from them no matter what the cost.

Lorena finds herself immensely drawn to Brogan, quite unaware of what he is after and that he is also a man of many dark secrets. Brogan, in return, is oblivious of the fact that Lorena fosters her own deep, dark secret, and finds himself falling for this sweet, Godly, young woman. Will their secrets destroy the sparks of love igniting the two of them?...and when Lorena is in danger will Brogan choose to save her in exchange for the son he has so longed for, all these many years? Will he ever submit his tormented soul to the loving God Lorena serves?

This was truly a lovely story of forgiveness, redemption, and second chances; with characters who wrapped themselves around my heart from pg. one! Lisa is a marvelous writer, and her research for the setting in this novel was impeccable. I love that there was a deep spiritual thread throughout, and though the conclusion was somewhat predictable, I enjoyed the journey there. Very nicely written, Lisa, and I am expecting great things from this author in the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Prize of My Heart - A Thrilling Love Story! May 4, 2012
Format:Paperback
Captain Brogan Talvis searches for his son that has been abandoned by his late wife. He feels hurt and betrayed that she has done this to him. His burning desire is to find his son and reunite with him. Finally after years of searching Captain Talvis has found a lead to where his son is living. He is living with Nathaniel Huntley, one of New England's most notable shipbuilders. It is a mystery to Captain Talvis as to what plan Huntley played in his son's disappearance. When Captain Talvis learns of the whereabouts of his son he devises a plan to be reunited with his son and steal away into the night with him.

Upon arriving at the Huntley estate Captain Talvis watches a girl sitting on a flat rock. He wonders why a kitchen maid would be out so early in the morn. She immediately intrigues him. What Captain Talvis doesn't know is the kitchen maid is none other than Huntley's daughter Lorena. Thus the story begins.

There is so much action and suspense in this book. The characters come alive and pull you into this thrilling adventure. There are many twists and turns throughout this great read. This story is a real page turner. I was on the edge of my seat many times worrying over what would happen next!

I loved this book. I loved how the author Lisa Norato brings God into the picture. In her telling of this story she makes sure we are aware that Faith in God, Trust in God, and family is the most important things in life.

This is the first book that I have read of this author. It won't be the last!

I wish to thank Bethany House Publishers for sending me this book to read and review. The opinions expressed are mine alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy! You'll love it. March 18, 2012
Format:Paperback
Loved it! Captain Brogan Talvis has searched long for his son who was given to another family by his wife while he was away at sea. Abigail Talvis is now dead and Bogan's three long years of searching for his son has produced the knowledge of his whereabouts. He has finally found his son and plans to abduct him! However, as Brogan gets to know the Huntleys who are now caring for his son, he realizes that he will need to befriend beautiful and compassionate Lorena in order to win his son's affection. Brogan soon succumbs to Lorena's innocent and loving charms and must make a choice when Lorena is abducted by an overzealous suitor. He must decide whether to chase down Lorena on her way to England or to make off with his son.

I loved everything about this book! Norato captured my attention from the start and made me long to know more about her characters. Brogan is an orphan who has always longed for someone to call his own. Lorena is a loyal and protective guardian who bakes to work through her troubled emotions. What will happen when both their secrets are revealed?

This book is definitely a buy and I will read it again!
