About the Author

Open-source developer and agile manager Stephen Chin is founder of numerous open-source projects including WidgetFX and JFXtras, and senior manager at Inovis in Emeryville, California. He has been working with Java desktop and enterprise technologies for more than a decade, and has a passion for improving development technologies and process. Stephen's interest in Java technologies has lead him to start a Java- and JavaFX- focused blog that is targeted at early technology adopters (SteveOnJava.com).

Dean Iverson has been writing software professionally for more than 15 years. He is employed by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, where he is a senior researcher and rich client application developer. He also has a small software consultancy called Pleasing Software Solutions, which he co-founded with his wife.

Oswald Campesato is co-founder and chief executive officer of a stealth-mode Web 2.0 company in the social media space. He has worked for various companies, including JustSystems of Japan, Oracle, AAA, and several startups. He is the author/co-author of four other books.

Paul Trani is really just a 6-year-old in a man’s body. He has kept his sense of wonder and passion for creating, and has inspired countless others around the world as an evangelist for Adobe Systems, Inc. Prior to joining Adobe, Paul spent 10 years as an Adobe Certified Instructor, and he has worked for a handful of award-winning creative agencies in the Denver area, focusing on interactive technologies. He is also a best-selling author on Lynda.com. But don’t let him fool you. He’s still a kid that thinks Play-Doh is the best mobile interactive technology out there.

Fantastic Intro to Flash! September 11, 2011
Format:Paperback
Pro Android Flash is a fantastic read whether you are a flash veteran or new to flash. This book is full of useful tidbits of information to understand and utilize flash. These tidbits include how to fully utilize Actionscript, Flash, and Flex! With helpful starter examples that can be practiced to fully utilize flash in Android. I am a new to flash in android and I have found some very useful examples of how to translate already existing android code into flash. I was especially intrigued by the Graphics and Animations chapter, this give you an overview of how to make absolutely AWESOME animations and graphics, I was blown away. However; that is not all there is in this book; there is a ton of fun to be had with this book! It has 426 pages of useful information relative to flash. If you're looking for an introduction to flash, then look no further and do yourself a favor and pick up this book! You will not be disappointed.

Flash for apps - A solution August 17, 2011
By alyxmac
Format:Paperback
Despite its lack of implementation by Apple, Flash continues to appeal to developers, designers and mobile device users. The Abobe Flash CS5 release is packed with features that bring this development environment back into line with the best; especially for platforms and devices where Android is deployed. Development for iPhone is also included; by using Adobe Air, users do not need to have Flash Player installed at all.
This book takes you through the options for creating a new Android project. Firstly, it clearly illustrates and describes the Android architecture. Examples using Adobe Flash builder, Device Central and Flash Catalyst are included. This book is well worth consulting if you work with rich media and develop for mobile devices. It also simplifies the process for designers and developers to work together. This is a big plus!
An entire chapter introduces views; these are building blocks of most mobile devices. As an iOS developer, I notice the translation between the workflow of Android and iOS is simple; especially if a relevant resource like this is within easy reach. For programmers, both actionscript and MXML can be written and modified. The third chapter focuses on the interface: its components and deployment. The need to develop simultaneously for both Android and iPhone is critical and best done together rather than as separate projects. This book is good choice to have on hand.
Other chapters cover Graphics and Animation, Deployment, Hardware Inputs, Designer -Developer Workflow, Performance Tuning and more. Each chapter supplies sample code with explanations and commenting. If you have been looking for a great resource for multi-mobile development this is a great solution. It is not for beginners - you must be competent with various scripting languages and java to take full advantage of the goodies that this book offers.
