I bought this model on ebay from a dealer. It was new in the box and slightly less then amazon. Assembly is about an hour and your ready to go.
This is a large model 40" with dual electric motors and includes a nice lighting system for running at dusk. I ran my boat with dual 3800 ma NiMh batteries 7.2 volt packs. I was a little disapppointed with the run time. I only got about 10 minutes on the batteries. I was running at full speed most of the time so at half speed it would be alot longer.
I put about 2 1/2 lbs of added weight in the boat to give it a lower ride in the water. I ran the model in fairly calmn water and it looked great, just like the real thing. At full speed the motors give it a little bit of a roar as it comes cruising by. The only drawback for me was on the 3rd
run I lost both props. No damage but when I pulled the boat out of the water one prop was gone and the other just sheered off. I think the the torque of the motors at full speed just stressed them to the point of coming apart. So a prop upgrade is necessary if you like to run fast most of the time. This is a really nice model and worth the money. It will give me years of enjoyment if I don't hit anything. ProBoat did a nice job with this kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars 40'' (1/24) Pro-Boat PT-109, big and pretty nice, May 11, 2008

40'' (1/24) Pro-Boat PT-109,ready to run (RTR)

I recently purchased one of these from another vender. I got mine at a much reduced price due to it being a "scratch and dent" item. That is, it had some minor damage that was easily repaired.
I am very pleased with the Pro-Boat PT-109. It has a very nice scale appearance, so it looks good on a shelf as well as in the water. I found it very easy to set up. You will need two rechargeable battery packs for the boat and some AA's for the controller. I have taken it on short sea trails, and it performs very well. The two motors provide ample power and the controls work well. In my modest experience I am finding that I prefer the two stick control arrangement like the Pro-Boat PT-109 has to the trigger and wheel that some other RTR boats have. One thing to remember, if you are new to r/c boats...this is a large model, at 40" long, and over a foot at its widest , it really makes an impression. If you are looking for a slightly smaller and more sedate boat the aqua-craft Bristol Bay can be had for about the same price I paid for my scratch and dent Pro-Boat PT-109 (about half of the full retail price for the Pro-Boat PT-109), and is also a good looking model.
I have a moderate amount of experience with RTR R/C boats and model building. Most of the RTR boats I have are more toy like boats with simple controls (see my other reviews) with the exception of an Aqua Craft Bristol Bay that I have had for two years. I usually take a RTR boat and dress it up with a more scale paint job and weathering; I found this unnecessary with the Pro-Boat PT-109. At most, I planning a little weathering and adding some scale figures to it. Other modelers that are more into fine detail may wish to further enhance the Pro-Boat PT-109 with more correct detail pieces (such as the guns, ships wheel and, mufflers) but I found it quite satisfactory for display and play. The 1/24 scale should make it easy to find miscellaneous detail items if desired
