4.0 out of 5 stars I bought three for multiplayer; Seem to work well August 30, 2013

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I bought three of these to save some money for controllers I'd only be using for multiplayer. Oddly enough, in testing the controllers out, I wound up getting so used to them that I've been using them over the Official controller.

I've been burned in the past by buying third party stuff. I had a controller for my Gamecube which actually caused the system to shut itself down if you plugged it in. Because of this, I wasn't expecting much from these, but all three controllers actually work great and feel nice in my hands. If money were no issue, I'd still go with the official controller, but you can definitely take a risk on one of these in a pinch. Nyko does seem to have a pretty up to date customer help system online if anything did go wrong. I checked out their website just to make sure.

One thing to be wary of: the controllers didn't sync up properly until they had a good charge in them. If you plug them in and try to sync them right out of the box, there might be some issues. Give them 10-20 minutes to charge if you have an issue with syncing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not hold up for Super Smash Bros November 27, 2014
Verified Purchase
First off, this controller feels nice in the hand: softtouch plastic, right size and shape, buttons feel like they'd have a nice "click" to them, but when playing Super Smash Brothers, this thing holds up even worse than the 3DS. About an hour into the game, I noticed that the right stick (used for "Smash Attacks") no longer returned to center every time I released it. Another hour or so, and the "bumper" buttons started getting stuck if I pressed them too hard, and it was difficult to get it to release during gameplay. Shortly after, the B and Y buttons stopped registering every press.

Ultimately, this is a cheap controller, and it's quality isn't up to snuff for an intense game of Smash Bros, or other games where you are likely to hit the buttons hard and or frantically. Prior to Smash Bros, the controller worked acceptably (~3 months of use), so if you're not playing such an intensive game, it'll work fine.

If the actual Pro Controller is too much, you might try getting the Japanese version. It'll work (it's the same thing with different packaging), and tends to be ~$15 cheaper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not the best controller but the best for Wii U. May 19, 2013
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I got this at a very good cheap price at my local dept store so decided to give it a try despite the mixed reviews so far. Like most people, I needed a controller to play Black Ops 2. Couldn't do good with Nintendo's brand. Used this controller over the weekend for Black Ops 2. Did way better. I'm so use to using the Xbox 360 controller w/ the buttons on the right side. All buttons worked fine. Was worried about the flat trigger buttons but they didn't bother me. For a 3rd party controller, Hori did a good job. I usually just buy screen protectors or skins from them.

- Cheaper than the Nintendo brand
- Layout and shape are pretty much like an Xbox 360 controller
- Analog sticks are a nice deep concave for better grip
- Silicone/rubbery grip all around it for a nice grip
- Best controller on the market to use for Black Ops 2 if you're use to using a 1st party Xbox 360 or PS3 controller

- Dpad is not that great compared to Nintendo's controller. I play only Black Ops 2 so it didn't really matter
- Both trigger buttons are flat but still were responsive
- Although it didn't bother me, all 4 of the top buttons (both triggers and bumpers) seem a little stiffer than an Xbox 360 controller (or any other 1st party controller)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Cheap controller! June 2, 2014

Bought this for Mario Kart 8 and works fantastic. I'll probably buy another soon. The texture on the controller is really grippy and has a great feel too it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dead after 3 months September 15, 2014
Verified Purchase
Dead after 3 months, the left stick always getting stuck and thinking that im smashing it left when im not even touching the controller. the "a", and "b" buttons keep getting stuck and the triggers rarely respond. I want even using it that hard, just some light SMB 3D Land, some Mario Kart, and some New SMB U. no fighting games, and no shooters.

I expected this controller to let for years, but its failed.

oh and the manufacture warranty is gone after 3 months, so it looks like it was designed to fail quickly.

2.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for August 8, 2014
Verified Purchase
We already have a Gamepad and a Nintendo Wii U Pro controller, but I wanted to get two more controllers for Mario Kart and Super Smash (when it comes out). We took a chance on these to save some money, knowing we wouldn't be using them all the time so we didn't need top quality. One charged up and worked right away, the other one won't hold a charge and needs to be returned. Hopefully the replacement will hold a charge. I'd say reliability shouldn't be expected at this price.

The other problem is that the buttons need to be pressed all the way down to register. More than once my kart would slow down to a halt because I wasn't pushing down hard enough. The Nintendo Wii U Pro controllers are more expensive, but nicer in every way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very much like the Xbox controllers March 14, 2014
Verified Purchase
My husband and I were bummed out when Microsoft announced that they were doing away with the family package for Gold memberships on the Xbox 360--we were not willing to pay $100+ more when we could switch to the Wii U and play online for free. We ended up selling our Xbox and purchasing a Wii U. We've found that Nintendo is far more family friendly and Microsoft customer service pales in comparison to Nintendo's.

Anyway, I'm an Xbox girl at heart, and I was NOT happy with the Wii U GamePad or the WiiMote. I couldn't play COD on those things! We ended up purchasing a Wii Pro controller, but it just wasn't the same. The placement of the "sticks" was not the same as the Xbox, and I was playing horribly.

My husband decided to look into controllers that were more like the Xbox 360 controllers, and that's when he found the Pro Commander for Wii U by Nyko. At first, I thought the controller seemed rather small, but it was actually perfect for my small hands--an even better fit than the 360 controllers. With the "Classic" control settings on COD, I was back to my old sharp-shooting self again.

I would definitely recommend this controller to anyone that's used to playing on the Xbox 360 controllers. It's as close as you're going to get.
