3.0 out of 5 stars Works when you know what you're doing. February 13, 2013
Verified Purchase
The first day I got this, I was a little mad. You see, I synced the controller to the Wii U just fine, used it to play Black Ops 2 for about 5 minutes to see if it worked like the Wii U Pro Controller, which it does. Then, with the controller on, I swapped to the Wii menu. This is where the problem starts, if the controller is on when the console restarts to run the Wii OS, the controller gets confused and freezes up. There is a reset button you need to press, and then re-sync the controller to the Wii U. It does this every time you swap between the Wii and Wii U OS. Once I isolate the problem and establish a work around, I was able to use the controller for Wii games. Works great for Xenoblade Chronicles, made that game more manageable, as the camera defaults to the right thumbstick. I would give this controller 4.5 stars if not for that glaring fault in the controller design. Hopefully this problem gets fixed in future versions of the controller.

The controller is about the same weight as the 360 controller. It's pretty comfortable for a 3rd party controller. A lot of thought went into it's design. Seems pretty rugged, but I wouldn't push my luck with it. The sticks don't seem to have the same sensitivity as the Wii U Pro controller, I noticed in BlackOps 2 it was a bit more sluggish when turning. The sticks themselves feel smooth, a little bit more tension behind them then the Wii U Pro Controller, it still doesn't have as much tension as the Xbox controllers. Overall, a good purchase for me, but I would not recommend this to someone is not tech savvy.

The built in rechargeable battery is nice, used it for about 25 hours so far without charging it. I only use it for Wii games though, I like my Wii U Pro controller for Wii U games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work at first, but... October 2, 2013

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I received this controller and followed the very limited instructions, but the light never turned green to say it was fully charged. Then i got a replacement, and this one did charge a turn green. But it wouldn't turn on!!! I was going to return this second one but I noticed a reset button. A little poke with a paper clip and walah, it would connect to the Wii! Then the controller worked as expected.

1.0 out of 5 stars False Advertising June 4, 2014
By Anon
The Controller Pro U clearly advertises itself as a wiimote, a classic controller, and a pro controller. However as soon as you open it up, there's a slip of paper which tells you IT DOES NOT function as a pro controller. Not only is it called a "controller pro u" but the packaging clearly states it works as a pro controller. Including the slip of paper means the company responsible is aware of this confusion but they are not willing to correct it. THIS PRODUCT IS A SCAM.

This is NOT a Wii U Pro controller. Instead, it's a Classic Controller with the Wiimote built-in. It can function as a vertical Wiimote, a horizontal Wiimote, or a Classic Controller. It does, however, work for Wii U (as well as for Wii), it just isn't going to work for games like, say, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which only has Wii U Pro Controller compatibility. It will work for games with Classic Controller support, however, and those that play with the horizontal Wiimote control scheme.

You might have some hiccups using it for the first time, but it's only a matter of letting it charge. I had to let it sit connected to my Wii U to let it charge. After that, though, it was great.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Concept....but poorly made April 4, 2013
Verified Purchase
I ordered this with high hopes and maybe my expectations were set a little high. After having it for about a week, it no longer to a charge and wouldn't turn on. Had to return it. Its really too bad because I liked the way the controller looked and felt....oh well..........If Nintendo eventually decides to wise up and make one of their own, it would totally be worth buying. But this one? Not really.

4.0 out of 5 stars A "Good" Backup Controller April 7, 2013

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this knowing what to expect. It does work for the the Wii & Wii U (select games) but it's not a great replacement for the Wiimote + Wii Classic Controller & Wii U Pro Controller.

The build quality is good. The buttons & the thumb sticks seem to be on the firmer side, it does take toll on extended play. Syncs easy to the Wii & Wii U, though you can't sync it on 2 systems at the same time. It can be used as a Wiimote or a Classic Controller via switch on the back.

I've been playing this with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate & I've been experiencing low to high response lag even on solo mode (offline), compared it with my old very responsive Hori Classic Controller which is the best controller I ever used in the Wii. This is the very reason why I dinged 1 star.

This is a good backup controller since it eliminates bulk that a Wiimote + Wii Classic Controller have but for games that requires precision controls, this one can be fatal. Great if you go to another's place for Wii/Wii U party games.

Great controller, with both wiimote and classic controller functionality. This is my new favorite controller for the wii (and virtual wii). I just wish I had found it before buying all the others. I bought this to use with the wii (and virtual wii within the wii U). This replaces all my gamecube, classic, and classic pro controllers. This is the way the classic controller should have been released by nintendo from the start - nintendo dropped the ball on that one. As others have mentioned, there is one minor flaw with this controller - the reset button is the paperclip pinhole type, which is really a design flaw. The fix is simple enough - just keep a paperclip handy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Alright but probably won't replace the Pro Controller.
It works fine for games that support the pro controller but DO NOT use it as a wiimote or wiimote/nunchuck. Also, sometimes it doesn't want to turn on.
