Whatever they want to call it, PES, World Soccer, whatever, year in and year out Konami & Seabass make a killer true football game.
This is their hardest edition to date. Normally I start at the Normal Master League level & work up from there, but I am still sledding on Amateur & it is really going to take a while for me to move up. The AI is superb, just difficult enough to make it truly thrilling sometimes to score goals. What sets PES apart from its competitors is the difficult gameplay that can be broken down thru smarts, savviness, and timing (& sometimes a little luck.) It does not need flashy trick moves, & crazy multiple, simultaneous button mashing to get a great, honest result against a superior side. Years from now young gamemakers will marvel at Seabass' amazing series of games for Konami. I could care less about the licensing stuff. The funny names and odd kits add charm to the experience. True football fans know what the teams are, and who plays for them. It is nice to see FC Basel, at last, though, (although it is about 5 years since their incredible Champion's League Cup run.)

The best edition of PES is Winning Eleven 8. Since then, no version has featured any goods as that one. All teams licensed, classic players like Maradona and Pele, not having to deal with freaky names and ugly outfits. PES 2008 is actually an improved version of Winning Eleven 10, which was sold only in Japan. It's basically the same stuff, with MANY not licensed teams, (only two from the Premier League which is actually the best league these days) no Bundesliga, and a very weird look of the outfits and logos when You edit them. The menus are also less usable and uglier.
As pros You could say that the brand new World Tour mode is pretty challenging. It really takes you away from the bothering of playing against a Germany National team where Ballack is something like "wayack". The world tour combines the basic challenges of playing a football match with additional tasks you have to achieve if you want to go through: such as "score two goals with different players" "win and score one goal with a replacement player", etc. It's pretty good, sometimes the match begins at the additional time so you have less time than usual to make the task. Sort of a combination of PES and Risk. The best PES game is Winning Eleven 8, even though today it won't be up to date about who is playing where, you always can make the teams your own way. The only thing I highlight about PES2008 is the World Tour mode. If you happen to have WE 10, the japanese one, do not get this one because you're gonna get the same thing with another interface. As I did actually.

Really interesting
like the one before but with more dribble, and recquire more precision when shouting or giving the ball to another player. really cool game. For beginners. You'd better play on beginner mode first...

Just aweseome, me and my buddies have been playing this game for ages. Regarding this version, it is excellent for my PS2.
However, I noticed that sometimes, only sometimes, during a match, it hangs for a second or two. I am not quite sure what is the cause of this. Offcourse this is awefully annoying when you are ready to strike the ball at your opponent's goal.

Its a great game featuring vast improvements over prior versions.
Unfortunately it seems as though this is the last good pro evo before fifa finally caught up. Hopefully they can make a better product in the future and restore their superiority as I would like to be brand loyal.

Great game. Unlike the FIFA games I played before this game was very satisfactory. Very smooth play, almost perfect control after you get the hang of it, and excellent action. The teams are decent, and you unlock amazing old school teams by playing the Master League. You can also make you own team, with very detailed customization options. (You can also disguise your players as Pinguins or actual dinosaurs, in real 3d, funny stuff. I spent months and months playing this game everyday first with my old roommate, then with my new roommate. I'm thinking of checking out the 2010 when it comes out but i'm still playing the 08.

PES 2008 is long awaited in North America, but now that it's here we can enjoy the finest edition of this long running series on PS2. Everything that was in PES 6 is still here plus the addition of new community and world tour modes. The network service is up and running (since 03/13/08) and it's very easy to find a game against an online opponent, and as long as you pay attention to the connection quality (and only play opponents with 2 bars or more) then it will be very smooth and enjoyable. So in summary, despite the next-gen systems having better graphics, the PS2 game is the better overall experience hands down.

First of all, I have PS3 but I bought a PS2 version of the game. The online mode is lagging so bad. the player move around without your control. also, PS3 have less Stadium then PS2. If I not remember wrong. PS3 only have 10 stadium vs PS 2 35 Stadium. PS2 get the World Tour Mode, which PS3 doesn't have. Xbox 360 and PS3 has so many bug. go Google search PES 2008 bug. you will know what I am talking about here. Very Disappointed fans of WE series.
