This book was a disappointment.

After a brief introduction by the author/photographer, a 1 page commentary by Bears running back, Ronnie Bull, and a page and a half recap of the 1963 NFL Championship game between the Giants and the Bears, there is very little text in the rest of the book.

The photographs (all black and white) are mostly action shots of games played at Wrigley Field taken on the sidelines and are very good. But, be warned, you better be familar with the era (1960s) or have a program, because NONE of the pictures are captioned.

The little text in the book that appears outside of what was mentioned above, is a brief one page capsule of each team in the NFL from the 1960s and what they did in those 10 years. Also included are the scores for each team in their games at Wrigley in the 1960s, though this is not made clear. Teams back then played each other twice a year, home and away. The book just gives the year and 1 game score. It would have been nice to have had the date included in addition to the year and score for each game.

There was at least 1 mistake in the scores and it's a glaring one...the famous game that Gayle Sayers scored 6 TDs against the San Francisco 49ers that was played in 1965 was reversed with the score from the Niners game played in 1964! (Also, NO pictures from that game appear in the book, a BIG omission.)

This is a nice book if you want pictures of the Chicago Bears playing against other teams in the NFL in the 1960s. But, that's all you're going to get. If you want a descriptive history of Pro Football at Wrigley Field, look somewhere else.

As a long time Cubs fan, I've always thought of Wrigley Field as a hallowed baseball stadium, which of course it is. But this book has revealed to me what a huge part FOOTBALL played in the rich history of the Friendly Confines. In addition to Ron Nelson's fabulous stop/action photos and his closeup gems of people like coaching icons George Halas and Vince Lombardi, Beth Gorr's text is loaded with inside info about the teams that played the Chicago Bears through those years, including many comments by the players themselves. This book is a must read for any pro football fan.

This book is a must-have for any football fan who appreciates history, whether or not you're even a fan of the Bears. The other teams that are photographed and included in this book are the Lions, Colts, Vikings, 49ers, Eagles, Cardinals, Giants, Rams, and of course Packers.

I have a few different books that contain a few of these iconic pictures, but I've not seen most of them before. All of the pictures are black 'n' white, with terrific clarity, and laid out well on the pages. I believe the time-frame covered is 1961-1969.

After 25 pages of assorted Bears shots, the pictures are then grouped by opponent, with each one getting a respective chapter. There's some intro text for each chapter or section, and although there are some typos it's solid, factual reporting. The bottom line, though, is this book is about the pictures, and on that note it couldn't be done better. My only complaint is that it's "only" just over 100 pages. I would have loved to have seen what hit the cutting room floor! For the price this is a steal...
