PROFESSIONAL LAB INC Pro Radon Gas Test Kit is simple to use but I never heard from them with results. I waited a few weeks then email got no response then call only to be left on hold for an hour only to be finally transfer to a tape machine. Pretty infuriating customer service. I would avoid them in the future and am now searching for an alternative.

Get a long-term tester instead.,

I bought one of these 4-day test kits and got a 13.2 reading for my $30. They then recommend that you immediately test AGAIN for another $30. No thanks. I did some on-line research and found out that frozen ground and rain can affect your results, nothing about that in the test kit or results sheet from Pro-Lab. Both of those scenarios came into play during my 4-day test. Instead of giving them another $30, I got the Safety Siren Pro 3 long-term radon detector. It's been going for 7 days now and my first reading was 7.7, half of the other test. Then it went down gradually to 4.8, and now it's gone back up to 8.0. This is all within 7 days. So you can seen how a 4-day test can be extremely inaccurate and misleading. Get a long-term detector instead. That will also allow you to move the detector around your basement and possibly pinpoint the area of issue. Safety Siren Pro 3 Radon Detectors, EPA Evaluated

i would rate this item -10. your page does not indicate that there would be a charge of the $20 for the analysis of the exposed kit.amazon would not give me the phone no. of the company - only an email address-which was invalid. it seems to me that amazon is responsible for any item it advertises on its web page.how about a refund?

Don't waste your money on this kit COSTLY and HIGHLY inaccurate,

The first kit I bought I got a result of 13.1 which is higher than what the EPA deems as safe radon levels. So I decided to take a second test. This test came back within the safe level of 3.1. Both tests were taken within two weeks of one another and within 20 feet of each other. 2 tests later and over $70 spent on the kits and the lab fees, I still don't know what the real radon levels are in my home. The best part is when I called customer service I spoke to a "service rep" in the Radon test dept who didn't seem to know what she was doing and who put me on hold several times, only to ultimately disconnect me. When I called back and spoke to the supervisor of the radon group she acted as if she was inconvenienced by having to speak with someone about the product. The company seems to be very unorganized and low rent. Last, they provide a list by state of supposed government agencies that give information on radon. In true fashion the number they provided (Oregon) was disconnected. You may as well take your cash and hurl it out the window - it's a big ol' was of money!

Don't think I'll use this product again,
This review is from: Pro-Lab RA100 Radon Gas Do It Yoursef Test Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
We're in a 'max' radon county. Used this many years ago to check a room in our shop, which is on a concrete slab. Put it near a wall closest to the only opening through the concrete which was a tub drain hole in the bath. No Radon reported. Fine.
Building the house now. Crawlspace will be enclosed and conditioned, so in order to justify radon mitigation plans, we did a test. We built a plastic tent in the crawlspace to put the canisters in. We knew this would create a worst case scenario situation and concentrate the radon. Test came back at 60. Very high obviously, and expected. So then I call ProLab. After all, their test result form says give them a call if you have questions. This is where it went down hill. I asked to speak to a specialist. Not sure what I got. Tried to outline our testing conditions: small 'tent' testing area, high humididity because no vapor barrier laid yet) etc. I didn't get very far because I was cut off and told to call my state air quality people... "we just give test results". Well ok, so why do you offer to answer questions? "Well, we need to get that stuff off of the literature". So DO IT instead of wasting my time and energy calling you. You know what? There's an instrument available that apparently lasts forever, has good reviews, allows you to move the sensor around to different areas (like the crawl, basement, upstairs, downstairs, near a sump pump or problem area, etc.) watch for variations throughout the year in all conditions such as high humidity, and test with different air circulation conditions. So I'm ordering this sensor through Amazon in about five minutes... Safety Siren Pro Series HS71512 3 Radon Gas Detector If you live in a high radon county, you're probably better off just buying the Safety Siren Pro 3 sensor and testing your house yourself. You can be a hero and loan this thing out to friends too. Just makes more sense to spend about $130 for a permanent answer to radon testing, than to spend about $10 for this kit plus $30 for a lab fee. $40 for a one shot test, and then they just recommend you immediately buy another kit if you have a high reading. That would be $80 to confirm radon presence at one static point in the home. Will this kit check for radon? Apparently so. Is it the best option? Well, maybe just once to confirm radon is present, BUT... where did you put the little test bottles? Was that one-shot bottle placement a good spot for sure, or do you have a hot spot in the home you don't know about? Plan on getting a Safety Siren 3 next. Do you know you have radon already? Then why bother with this little kit that just encourages you to buy more of them... just get the Safety Siren 3 for long term troubleshooting and monitoring and to learn your home's radon 'tendencies' under different condition. About to install a radon mitigation system? Get the Safety Siren immediately, get readings in different areas for recommended time periods to serve as a control, and then begin mitigation. Get more readings... and see if things are better or if you need to take more mitigation measures. This just makes sense.

There is a fee of $20 when you send the used tests in to be analyzed. It says so on the package. So, if you buy it in a store, you know to expect that. I think lab fees are normal for most radon tests. I didn't receive the results in the mail but that may be because we're moving, mail is being forwarded, we're disorganized, etc. I emailed the company and within a couple of days they emailed my results to me. I found their email address on their web site, the web site is listed on the package.

The seller of this item was not clear that there is a lab fee.... the description was cut off and did not include the detail regarding the $30 lab fee.... $30 is quite a bit... You can easily find kits for much cheaper that INCLUDE the lab fee.
Instead of spending $30 on the fee, I'll just buy a different kit for $15 that includes the lab fee... Just search for radon test kit and you will find several under $20..

Additional Lab Fees Required!,

For each kit used (and at least two test kits are recommended), a $15 lab fee is additional for "Standard" lab results. For a couple dollars more, use the First Alert brand. The only additional cost is for 3 or 4 postage stamps.

Meaningless test,

This type of test is meaningless, such a short term test done by amateurs who are not trained and certified and especially not following EPA protocol will give useless results.

This set includes two testers, but don't forget that you will need to send them to a lab for results. The fees for that seem to range from about $24-$35 dollars per each capsule.
