This hitch receiver was simple to install onto my Chevy Colorado. I was able to put it on alone without any assistance. The instructions were easy to follow. It is well built with excellent weld seams. Most of the hitch is hidden by the bumper so it looks good too.

I didn't give it 5 stars for two reasons. Reason #1 is that the packaging was poor. More on that in a moment. Secondly, I had to install this hitch twice. The first one I received had the square holder welded backwards. The holes would not line up with any hitch because they were towards the front of the vehicle instead of the aft. Since I had this item shipped to me twice, I can tell you for certain the packaging is poor. Both times, the box that held the hitch was completely ripped to shreds by the edges of the receiver. There was almost nothing left of the box. I didn't mind this so much except that all of the paint was scraped off of both ends of the receiver. I would prefer to receive a new product in new condition.

Good product. not difficult to install. An extra set of hands is adviseable if your not limber or don't have a lift. Wear your safety glasses so you don't get dirt in your eyes.

My only beef is the forest they cut down to make the box. 6 times the size it needed to be.

This tow hitch is an OUTSTANDING product. Not just in the Quality, but in the hardware INCLUDED in the kit:

(1) It comes with a "Spring Wire" that is absolutely brilliant in design, aiding in getting the front vertical bolt and square hole brace through the vehicle frame, and in place in the horizontal hole in the front hitch mounting.

(2) They include Conical toothed locking washers which adds an incredible BITE when torqued to specifications. The quality of the washers and bolts seems to be of very high (aircraft?) quality.

* Negative -- the only negative I see is the lack of instructions as to how to align the included side bolts through the hitch, through the bumper mounts, and then into the frame welded nut. I would advise a simple plastic insert ... inserted AS EACH of the old bolts are removed. This would aid in keeping the bumper bracket ALIGNED with the holes ... while you're jockying the hitch into position (in my case using a floor jack and a helper).

I just installed the hitch on my 2005 Chev. Colorado and it fits perfectly !!!! There was no problems with the install, all the bolts-nuts-washers etc. came with it as well. The hitch is made of very heavy gauge steel, nice welds on plate connectors, and the paint finish seems to be very good. And there is no problem with getting the spare tire from under the truck, the hitch is completely out of the way. You do have to take out all of the bolts on the original bumper brackets to install this, but don't worry the bumper brackets are grooved to stay on the frame while you put the hitch up. I didn't have jack stands to hold the hitch in place,but........it wasn't that hard to hold it in place until I could get the bolts started. Other than that, it all good !!

Purchased this for my 2006 Chevy Colorado.

Suggestion. To make installation go smoothly, have the following tools available ahead of time. 21mm impact socket, 22 mm impact socket, 7/16 socket, ratchets that will drive each, as well as a breaker bar and torque wrench for each capable of registering a 117 ft. lb. (or metric equivalent) torque. A tube of LocTite may be a saving investment as well. You may be able to use an impact driver, however the impact drivers (air and cordless) that I have would not fit in the space between the frame rail and the side of the pick-up. Your experience may be different. Most importantly, you will want support for the receiver and your bumper to help in aligning the holes to install your new hitch. This may be one or two other people, some sort of a lift and clamps, or you can do this using your body, but it will take longer. (I did, and it did.) Due to needing to pick up tools that I thought I had, but couldn't find in my shop, apparently either loaned out or they grew legs, I ended up picking up about $80 in sockets, drivers, etc., and my install time from start of the job to finish went from the projected 30-90 min, up to a total of over 5 hours, but that did involve trips for tools that I thought I had. With all tools in hand, it took me about 3 hours to install.

This receiver has a load limit of 6,000 lb with 600 lb tongue weight, or up to 7500 lb (750 lb tongue weight) with a weight distributing hitch. Looking through _my_ copy of the owners manual for my Colorado, the maximum trailer weight should not exceed 3000 lb, and the GVRW (total including trailer, truck, cargo, and passengers) should not exceed 7,000 lb. So for the most part that means that this hitch is seriously overkill for the capacity of my truck.

Some people complained about the box the hitch came in, mine didn't have a box. It came Fed Ex in record time, 3 days I think. The wife and I laid all the parts out and found out they said there would be 2 hex nuts 7/16-14, wrong, I had 1 7/16 and 1 3/8-18, no big deal, as I have a large selection of nuts and bolts. Included was a 7/16 wire leader thingy, What the heck is this? After MUCH thinking on my part I figured out what it was, what a slick deal!!! Pulled the truck into the garage on a cool cement floor, don't try this outside on a 90 degree day. I got some wood blocks, put them under the truck and a 4 ft. 2x4 for a lever and lifted the hitch on top of that. I got hold of the hitch, had the wife move the lever up or down as needed. The head of the carriage bolts are just a little bit too big to go into the hole in the frame so I ground just a little off each side of the head and worked just fine. The installation took about an hour with a helper, could NOT have done by myself, oh, I'm 75 years old but can still wrench!!!!! Very good product!!!!!!!
