4.0 out of 5 stars Best material for Pro Tools beginners
I would have to say this book is what you want when starting out in your pro tools voyage. Very easy to read and very informitive. The only problem is it is soley for beginners (as well as a great reference manual), you will not find anything to in-depth here. But if you wish to know all the essentals of basic pro tools operating this is your avenue.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its a Manual
Its basically a pro-tools manual, advising what specific menu functions do what and where they are located, but not really teaching any techniques or providing much real life usage explanations.

If you want a digidesign pro-tools manual, get it... If you want to learn more about actual use of functions for recording, mixing, and editing, get something...

4.0 out of 5 stars Read with patience., November 2, 2008

I am new to pro tools and the more I get into it the more I enjoy all its features. Pro Tools 101 is a great reference manual. It is a bit technical but once you begin to work with the program and begin to understand the features the book becomes easier to handle. IF you have never used this product, you can't go wrong with this book. Take it from a guy who knew nothing about Pro Tools and in one week, I am almost finish with my first project......Welcome to Pro Tools.

The included dvd was of little to no use other than the inclusion of the Xpand midi modules which is pretty cool but I believe Xpand is available as a free download from digi or elsewhere anyway.

3.0 out of 5 stars DVD doesn't work right, March 25, 2009
Well, in general this product is very helpful. It's extremely detailed in each chapter giving me a great way to learn hands on. The only downfall of this product was the instructional dvd that comes with the book, doesn't play on my brand new macbook pro. However, this same dvd plays every once in a while on my other macbook. Also, this dvd is missing the first 16 video tutorials. So, the book itself is great but the dvd not working, makes this product not worth the money. Learning on my own, being a visual learner, I was really counting on the dvd to help speed along my learning process.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but no keyboard shortcuts, February 17, 2009

This is a decent book with a lot of information. I would certainly expect it to be, since it is published by Digidesign, the makers of the product of which it gives instruction. But, this is the ONLY computer software book I have ever purchased that gives very few keyboard shortcuts. For example, open any Microsoft Office book and the most basic command is the "New" command. Most books write it as such: click File>New (Ctrl+N) to open a new file. Something very similar to this, I am sure you get the point. Trust me when I say that there is VERY few of these vital shortcuts. To truly master a computer program, you need to know what shortcut gets the job done. A Digidesign instructor told me that they start introducing keyboard shortcuts in the 300 level certification programs. In my opinion, this is far too late. Other than that, it's a decent book, easy to read and follow, and some good learning projects included on the DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, March 8, 2007

This review is from: Pro Tools 101 Official Courseware (Paperback)
I originally got this book while preparing for the Pro Tools 101 class I was about to take. I went through most of it (chapter by chapter) in about a week, and got up to Chapter 6 (There are 10 chapters). Truthfully, the Pro Tools 101 Class is the best way to go. I think even in the book somewhere it says something that "while you can do at-home studying, hands-on experience is the best way to fully enjoy/learn this book." That statement is VERY true. The book has a great way of simplifying things down, and makes it, for the most part, fairly easy to understand anything. While this book was GREAT, I would recommend taking the Pro Tools 101 class anywhere you can.

4.0 out of 5 stars Official Book, August 20, 2006
This review is from: Pro Tools 101 Official Courseware (Paperback)
The book is excellent and the only negetive comment is that I wish it included more information about how to connect and set up Pro Tools equipment and software. Otherwise it is better than the manuel that comes with it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrong product, February 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I could have sworn I order version 8.0

I spoke with one of your reps. shortly after receiving my book, and he told me to ship it back however you could not send me the version I needed until you received the one I have. I needed this book for school and that process would have taking far to long. So as it stands, I have a book I can't use and only by the grace of God I'm keeping up in class without a text book.

I researched my search request on my computer and what I could on your website and it shows in all my request 8.0 or higher, I'm still wondering how in the world your site ended up with 7.4 or anything below.
