This is truly a great piece of equipment and probably the equivalent of a Rega P1. But before the Rega fans complain, this depends on the listener and one should probably test both using the same gear (amp, speakers, record) before choosing which one suits their ears best.

Quality construction and parts, but no bells and whistles. This was trimmed down in favor of giving the best music at this price - a lot of turntables may sound better, but be prepared to spend a whole lot more.

I found this turntable truly excellent, especially when you get the itch to fiddle with it. The optional speedbox is a great future investment, as well as an upgrade on the cartridge/stylus when the original one is due for replacement. Throw in a good mat and the sound can compete with other tables at much higher price points.

This is how it's going to go. You're going to think about buying this TT and you're going to venture off into the online ether in order to find some more info, comps and reviews. Chances are you'll stumble into an "Audiophile" chat room or site and find some mixed reviews. Ignore them. This table is all you'll need. It is not a top of the line audiophile turntable. It is probably way better than what you are currently using however. If you want something markedly better than this than prepare to spend more than $700 bucks. Most likely much more. The people in those aforementioned chat rooms have paid a lot more than that for their systems and want you to feel that you must do the same. Either they have more advanced hearing capabilities than you (which I guess is possible)or they have bigger bank accounts (also possible)or they are extremely pretentious when it comes to music listening (bingo, that's the one). Shell out a few hundred bucks, buy this TT and be happy knowing that you bought a product you'll really love and that sounds great. Leave the fourms to the people who have nothing better to do than comment pompously from chat rooms. I know I sort of just did a chat roomy thing by commenting with this review but consider it my hypocritical sacrifice for your future listening enjoyment.

Got my PRO-JECT Debut Iii player a few weeks ago. Plays very nice. Looks great. Made by a German company. However, if you want to get a clear static free sound especially from older Vinyl records you better be ready to spend an extra $130 to buy PRO-JECT ACRYL-IT PLATTER for it. It replaces 10 inch platter that comes with Debut Iii with a 12 inch acrylic platter also made by Pro-ject specificly for Debut Iii. So the total cost for this player would be arounf $500 with the new platter. The player is not automatic - so when the record is over you better don't forget to either turn it off or put a new record because this player would just continue to spin for ever.

Also, you need a receiver to use this player. The receiver must have a "Phono" input jack with a ground connection. If your receiverr does not have "PHONO", but just have "CD", "TAPE", "DVD", or other type of connection Debut Iii will not work for you because it specificly needs a "PHONO" input to be available.

I purchased this from an outside site after my 15 year old Techniques gave up the ghost. I read many reviews for this table on different sites and ultimately went with this over the Rega because most reviews said they were comparable and this table was only $299 in matte black. win win.

I'm not an audiophile so I can't comment on the very fine details of the table, but I was a DJ for 10 years and have been collecting vinyl for close to 30 years. I know music and am writing this as a first time purchaser of an audiophile piece of equipment.

First thing, this is a beautiful looking and sounding table. It comes mostly with everything you would want (more on that later), the OM-5 cartridge is already installed and is great. it has a great dust cover that is beautiful compared to those of my old tables, it's higher than most and has slightly rounded corners to soften the look a bit.

Thing you need to know about purchasing this:

This is a fully manual turntable. I understood that when I bought it but didn't realize the totality of it until I got the turntable home. Having used an automatic table for the last 15 years this has taken some getting used to. What this means is that the platter doesn't turn until you flip the on switch underneath the plinth and doesn't stop turning until you do the same. The tonearm won't return automatically when the record is over, and most importantly if you want to play a 45rpm record you have to remove the platter and manually adjust the belt to the correct pulley. This is something I hadn't seen mentioned anywhere else, but for the most part isn't that big of a deal. Pro-Ject sells an adapter that will do this automatically so I'm looking into that as I have a lot of 10" records and 12" singles at 45rpm.
