I think someone has missed the point. It is very obvious from the picture that this holster is not intended to conceal your firearm when you open your vehicle door. Anyone who carries a concealed firearm on a daily basis knows that most concealed carry rigs do not leave your firearm readily accessible when you are belted into the seat of your vehicle. Additionally, if you are right handed and carry 'strong side', your weapon is now on the side of a potential attacker in the passenger seat of your vehicle. The remedy for this is to place your firearm in a more accessible position, away from potential attackers, but finding that position is not always an easy thing to do. Couple that with the fact that some states require that the firearm still be in a holster even while inside the vehicle, and the problem potentially becomes worse. That's where this holster comes in. The reason the title says concealed is because you can use it to keep your firearm concealed from others inside your vehicle, and from those outside your vehicle while the door is closed, but still maintain easy access to it. If you are opening your door then it is assumed that you are taking your firearm with you since you are carrying concealed. In that case you would have transferred your firearm to it's concealed position on your body prior to opening the door. It's still true that the holster would be visible though unless you removed it. It's unlikely that anyone would see it, or even realize what it was if they did, but that personally wouldn't bother me even if they did. It would be up to an individual purchaser whether that would bother them, and of course they would still have the option of removing the holster before they opened the door. But the assertion that this is not for concealed carry is simply not true. This is very much designed for those with a concealed carry license. I've been looking for something like this for a very long time.

1-9-12 edit: This was actually the last of several vehicle holsters I bought and tried out so this edit is long overdue. Although this concept was something I had been looking for, the holster turned out to be a disappointment for me. The problem is with the straps that hold the holster in place. The holster itself is quite wide as you can see in the picture, and the straps exit on each side with a buckle in the back. What I failed to take into account is that the structural member that mounts my seatback to my seat bottom, that the strap must go around, is nowhere near that wide. It is only about an inch wide, while the holster has about six or seven inches of strap width. Once buckled, there is no way to take up that much slack with the adjuster on the strap, so the holster ends up sagging very loosely beside the seat and rocking back and forth. If I had a vehicle with a wider seat structure to mount it to, this might be a great holster. Unfortunately I just don't have that vehicle. If there was a way for me to adjust the holster to take up that slack, things might be better, but I could find no way to do that. I'm downgrading my review to two stars. Great concept. It just needs some serious tweaking, for my type of vehicle anyway (2004 Ford F250).

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's the Strap???, July 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pro-tech's concealed Seat Buddy for Trucks and SUV (Misc.)
I bought this to carry my Glock while we are on vacation in states where my concealed carry permit is honored. Specifically, we wanted a safe, fast way to get to the gun if it was needed. This LOOKED like it fit the bill.

Take a look at the photo. Do you see the strap at the right that holds the holster in place around the car seat? So did I. The trouble is: the strap ISN'T included, and they don't tell you that, OR tell you where you can get one!

One of my most disappointing Amazon purchases. Not sure who is to blame, the manufacturer or the dealer, but either way...it sure isn't clear on the listing or photo.

Find something else.

FOLLOW-UP: After I posted this review, they air-brushed the strap out of the photo. Pretty slick try, but DON'T buy this....it STILL doesn't have a strap. I was ripped off.

2.0 out of 5 stars Clever Idea ... Poor construction, December 15, 2010

I like the idea. But the construction is very flimsy. The thumb break takes 2 hands instead of one thumb. The construction of the body does not have enough rigidity. My firearm (M&P 9mm) gets stuck in the holster on draw and won't go back in without a fight. I'm going to try to find a way to beef it up a bit so I don't feel like it was a total loss.

2.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy and Unsecure, but I cant find better, January 3, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I installed this on my f250, captains chairs.

Cons:
It was difficult to secure tightly, and even then it slides up and down. This makes it hard to insert and remove the weapon, and also causes the weapon to bang around during rough travel.

Pros:
Fits mid and maybe even larger frame weapons with a bit of working in. It is also a great location in my opinion.

Conclusion: I have yet to find better so I guess I'll fiddle with it and put some more straps on it.

1.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't fit, December 30, 2011

I order this item and I was excited and I went to install it into my car seat it did not fit. I appears like the string is too small and it won't fit in any vehicle. I tried installing it in several and I wasn't able to use. Do not buy this item because it won't work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good placement for the car, December 21, 2011

This works well in this position, as it is hidden from view from all angles, until you open the door. The only disappointment is that as mentioned in other reviews, it does not have a strap to hold it in place to the seat. It moves up and down with the shoulder belt, so it makes it a little cumbersome. I will probably come up with some sort of strap the holds it more securely.

2.0 out of 5 stars Does not fit all vehicles, October 9, 2011
This review is from: Pro-tech's concealed Seat Buddy for Trucks and SUV (Misc.)
This is not a bad idea, but you really need to check your vehicle before you buy. Is there any clearance between the seat and the seat belt pillar? If not, it won't work.
I have a Honda Ridgeline and this holster is simply not an option.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice place to keep your gun, February 5, 2011
This review is from: Pro-tech's concealed Seat Buddy for Trucks and SUV (Misc.)
This is a fine place to keep your gun but I dont know how practical it is (for me). First of all, the truck I drive has a door pocket which reduces the amt of room I have to get my hand down to get it. Also, the design of the seats almost sets the holster as my 7 or 8:00 position. This is not practical in the event of an emergency. In addition to this, it draws on my weak side. I have a bench seat so I would not be able to attach it to the right side.

On the positive side, it holds my XD subcompact (w/loaded 12round clip)securely and firmly. In contrast to one of the other reviews, My holster came with all straps shown and needed nothing else to complete it as shown. Before this purchase, I kept my gun in the center console, where is would slide around, or left it in my waist band holster, which was terribly uncomfortable; this product solved these issues. Another nice feature (other than its suggested purpose) is that the mounting strap can be unclipped & slipped out (quite easily) allowing the seat buddy to be uses as outside the belt holster. Now dont get me wrong, its not ideal and you would need a sturdy tacticle belt but in a jam it will work.

All in all, the only issue I have with this product it that it wasn't designed by Chevy. It's a great product but it may not be perfect for all applications.

4.0 out of 5 stars There when you need it, January 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pro-tech's concealed Seat Buddy for Trucks and SUV (Misc.)
The reason I only gave 4 stars is it still isn't as secure to the seat as I would like. Other than that, it works as advertised. You know where you firearm is everytime and access is quick. Just hope I never have to pull it.
