My wife surprised me on my birthday with this exerciser in late December. This was at my mother-in-law's house and we left it there. We spent all of January in Florida and when we returned, found my son had brought it to our house. I usually go the a health club to workout and was not excited my wife bought this but figured I would do 20 minutes of exercise on my "off days" and my wife could also use it. After the third use and almost 24 hours later, my wife walked by this Pro-Form and heard a noise. I looked and the control panel had failed to shut off. I read the manual and it is supposed to "shut off automatically". Today I went to do 20 minutes and it was OFF. But the control panel would not come on when I pedaled. It must be the batteries. I read the manual and it takes 4 D alkaline batteries which must not last anytime at all. I also read that if the product is not registered within 30 days of purchase even the limited warranty does not apply. So on Monday I will call and try to purchase an optional power adapter (which they say: " To avoid damaging the console, use only a manufacturer-supplied power adapter.") You get what you pay for and cheap (if you call it cheap) exercise equipment: ellipticals, treadmills, and recumbents often have CHEAP components. If things should improve I will edit this review. UPDATE: I called customer service and they were most helpful. They are sending another console which will entail some mechanical work on my part to change this part. They are out of stock so this could take 2 weeks. I inquired about the ac/dc adapter and the Rep told me these were $ 20 and that since they were shipping a console anyway I would not have to pay shipping-he put me on hold and when he came back told me I would have to pay shipping and that the total was over $50.Read more ›

I went through the same headache as Herman, the other reviewer before me. Sadly, I did not get it as a gift since I paid for it out of my own pocket.

The Good

As an exercise bike, you should have the flexibility you need when choosing your preferred workout. You only have two buttons: 8 Weight Loss Workouts and 8 Performance Workouts. If your routine is anything other than the preset configurations you can do your own manual routine where you pedal as long as you want and change the resistance whenever you want. The one I use most is the weight loss workout at 30 minutes. I do work up a good sweat, but only when the resistance is above 6.

Since it has speakers, it has an audio line-in jack which you can use to play music from an iPod or iPod Shuffle. It also has a little container where you can leave your MP3 player while you work out. You do have to have your own male-to-male headphone jack, but I figured that'd be pretty standard with most workout bikes.

The Bad

Everything about the power supply is a huge train wreck.

First, this bike does not come with a power adapter. This is the first time in my life I've seen a device of this size not include a power cord of any sort. It needs 4 size D batteries to operate. Since there is no "off" button you have to let it sit idle before it powers off, but even then it has a mind of its own and will turn itself back on periodically. Since it does not shut off like it's supposed to the batteries only last a few weeks—even if you never use the bike!

I was originally a little afraid to order this after reading some of the other reviews, but I went ahead and ordered it. Let me first say that you have to put it together - and the Instruction Book - is GREAT!!! It is the best Instruction Book on putting anything together that I have seen. I especially like how they put the screws and washers on a card and they are numbered just like in the book. The book says to have someone hold things while you tighten it, but I was able to put everything together by myself. It worked fine from the first time I tried it. I ordered the Bike from Amazon and the Adapter from WalMart. I do not like where the Adapter plug in is (in the Battery Compartment), but we ran the wire down the front and everything is fine. So far - no Problems - and my wife and I use it about 45 minutes to an hour a day total. I highly recommend this Exercise Bike and Adapter.

What I love about this exercise bike is that it doesn't come with a bunch of bells and whistles that you neither need nor can figure out how to use. The bike has 8 pre-programmed cardio workouts and 8 pre-programmed resistance workouts. You can also set your own time and resistance. It takes 4 D batteries, which I understand are depleted quickly. I just bought an A/C adapter and that solved that problem. It was easy to put together and it is really easy to use. The only real amenity it has is a nice deep water bottle holder that is in front of you (where it should be for easy reaching). This is not a top of the model product, but for those who just want to get some exercise in and don't want to spend a lot of time scrolling through menu's of options you don't need, this is the bike for you. It shipped out the day I ordered it.
