About Treadmills
Walking is still considered one of the most beneficial cardiovascular exercises for people of all ages, body types, and fitness levels. As a fundamental form of aerobic training, walking has numerous physical benefits for the heart, lungs, and circulatory system, while also increasing muscle tone and burning fat calories. Treadmills provide a convenient way to regularly exercise in all weather conditions in the comfort and safety of your own home.

From beginners just starting an exercise regimen to advanced athletes looking to maintain their fitness level, anyone interested in getting and staying in shape can benefit greatly from regular use of a treadmill. Treadmills allow you to determine the pace, distance, and complexity of the workout based on your needs, all while watching television, talking on the telephone, or reading a magazine. Much easier on sensitive joints like the knees and hips, treadmill walking and running surfaces are typically long, padded platforms that allow ample room for a long stride and comfortable, low-impact walk or jog without the harsh contact of a concrete surface.

While many different types, styles, and price ranges of treadmills exist, many of them offer unique features like a fold-up design for easy storage, an electronic display monitor showing speed, distance, workout time, incline level, and burned calories, and EKG grip pulses to monitor the heart rate while exercising. Regardless of the simple to complex features you may choose, treadmills offer an array of aerobic exercise opportunities that will provide long-lasting beneficial cardiovascular results without a commute to the gym or a jog in the rain.

I myself is a Proform treadmill customer and tortured by their customer services. I also found some reviews on the internet mentioning their machines broke down in several months after purchase. (Mine in three months.) The strategy of the customer service is basically make wild guesses of what went wrong and send you the parts asking you to replace it by yourself. (In one occasion, they even asked me to take off the motor and find a local garage to test the motor to see if it's good.)These back-and-forth guessing games normally drag on for months, and eventually they claim the warranty expired and they can no longer serve you, even though it's still within one year.

I believe you are looking for a treadmill for exercise, not to practice your debate skill over the phone with some customer service keep saying: "this is our policy."

I cannot speak for customer service because I have never needed it. So maybe their customer service does suck, I don't doubt the other reviews. I know few customer service places that dont suck these days.

Anyway, I have had this treadmill for over 3 years, use it quite often, and have not had a single issue with mine. Its not super fancy, but it has everything a basic runner needs (timer, heart rate, incline, variable speed, etc) and is not terribly expensive.

We bought this machine several years ago (at least six) for my mom (who is now 77) who uses it EVERYday. She walks on it at a relatively fast pace for an hour or so while doing her meditation or whatever she does to zone out. Since the initial purchase, we have had it serviced twice - the most recent service date was April 2009. I think there's a 10-year warranty? Anyway, each time we've called, the service department was courteous and sent somebody out (who contracts with ProForm) within a day or so. The last time the guy came out, he realigned the belt and oiled all the moving parts; and because it was still under warranty, there was no service charge. Aside from the exceptional service, this treadmill is an excellent machine. It's simple to use, simple to understand (my mom does not speak English all that well) and is pretty much a no-frills workhorse. There's not much glitz to it, but I'm not sure what other bells and whistles you would want on a treadmill.

Anyway, don't let the first rater throw you off if you're contemplating buying a treadmill. I would definitely recommend this.

Purchased this treadmill after doing a lot of research to train for first 1/2 marathon 5 years ago. Since then it has made it through training for: 10+ half marathons, 7 Full Marathons, 1 half Ironman and 1 Full Ironman. This treadmill has never had anything done to it with the exception lubing it every and adjusting belt every year. It is still on the original belt with very little wear. There are other treadmills with more features but one has the ones you need and they work dependably. The Heart Rate monitor is a hand gradp feature and works adequately to check it periodically. If you are looking for a bare bones machine to last, this is the machine. Can't really talk aboput Proform customer service as the 3 things(elliptical, exercise bike and this)we have made by them, have never required anything despite the massive mileage we put on them. As stated thes are their bare bones machines and they seem to take a beating. We are upgrading to the new Pro 2500 and selling this one to another fellow marathoner to see how long it will go:)
