Klipsch Promedia 2.1 Review,
By E S "E" (Pullman, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ProMedia 2.1 Personal Audio Sy (Personal Computers)
These speakers have amazing sound quality. The highs and mids are crystal clear. However, once you reach a certain volume level the bass does become distorted. I tried tinkering with the sub woofer wattage and adjusting bass levels, but nothing seemed to be able to fix the distortion. I am okay with this, because the volume at which the bass becomes distorted is fairly high and the highs and mids continue to aww me.
I think that the bass will satisfy most people, especially if these are your first high quality computer speakers. However, if you are looking for a system with extreme bass, I would go with logitech z-2300. I owned a pair of logitech z-5500's (z-2300's 5.1 twin system) which I sold and their bass was amazing. They shook neighbors foundations and out-blasted any other computer speaker I have ever heard. However, the highs and mids are nothing special on these speakers.

Perceptibly Superior,

I've been an audiophile for 30 years and have owned some amazing sound equipment. A year ago I read about the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 and found people raving about them. I'd stumbled into 2.1 crap speakers from CA thinking it's just PC sound so who cares? I should have known better than that - my ears have an elitist bent that must be catered by a great sounding speaker.
I bought the ProMedias, and I'm more than thrilled. They are a joy! Until you own your own you can't imagine how clean, and totally enjoyable they are when your favorite stuff is coming out of them. With the ProMedias I don't get fatigued by bass pounding me, but yet the bass is STRONG and powerful and deep and heavy and kick butt!!! There's a bass control on the left speaker and you can set the bass to your preference in regards to how the volume complements the sound. Voices and all mids and highs are natural without sounding airy or lifeless. The sound coming out of these is perceptibly superior! I listen to various sources of music, and these speakers do a fantastic job of any and all of it. Compared to the Bose PC speakers: Save your money. The Bose PC speakers are very nice, but these ProMedias are hundreds less, and sound great! I've owned Bose products in the past and have no beef with them. Do you need 4 or 5 or 7 speakers surrounding you and blasting you from every direction? OK. These aren't for you. For the rest of us they will wonderfully and effortlessly fill the room with rich, vibrant sound. The speakers can disappear into your room - they're just black boxes with a grill cloth (except the little power light - a necessary evil, I suppose). I recommend these Klipsch ProMedia 2.1s! I can't say enough good things about them. They're the best value available. Period!! You can't ask for a better sounding speaker system unless you're going to spend $600-$800 or more (and have a high end sound card, etc). The ProMedias cost less than $150 - usually around $110-130. Rock the house!

Reputation Far Exceeds the Real Thing,

These speakers worked well for about four months. Then I noticed distortion in the right satellite speaker. I contacted mfgr's customer service and they tried to troubleshoot the problem including replacing the power unit, replacing the speaker wires and returning the subwoofer AT MY EXPENSE! When the subwoofer was returned it worked no better than before I returned it. All this took about two months to get nowhere. Finally I requested a replacement since speakers were under warranty. That was about three weeks ago and I got no response. This all started around April 1 and 2 1/2 months later I'm still waiting for resolution. There are more reliable speakers on the market at lower prices. Shop around and buy either Altec Lansing or Logitech for less money. You will be a lot happier.
