These speakers have amazing sound quality. The highs and mids are crystal clear. However, once you reach a certain volume level the bass does become distorted. I tried tinkering with the sub woofer wattage and adjusting bass levels, but nothing seemed to be able to fix the distortion. I am okay with this, because the volume at which the bass becomes distorted is fairly high and the highs and mids continue to aww me.
I think that the bass will satisfy most people, especially if these are your first high quality computer speakers. However, if you are looking for a system with extreme bass, I would go with logitech z-2300. I owned a pair of logitech z-5500's (z-2300's 5.1 twin system) which I sold and their bass was amazing. They shook neighbors foundations and out-blasted any other computer speaker I have ever heard. However, the highs and mids are nothing special on these speakers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perceptibly Superior, October 9, 2008

I've been an audiophile for 30 years and have owned some amazing sound equipment. A year ago I read about the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 and found people raving about them. I'd stumbled into 2.1 crap speakers from CA thinking it's just PC sound so who cares? I should have known better than that - my ears have an elitist bent that must be catered by a great sounding speaker.

I bought the ProMedias, and I'm more than thrilled. They are a joy! Until you own your own you can't imagine how clean, and totally enjoyable they are when your favorite stuff is coming out of them. With the ProMedias I don't get fatigued by bass pounding me, but yet the bass is STRONG and powerful and deep and heavy and kick butt!!! There's a bass control on the left speaker and you can set the bass to your preference in regards to how the volume complements the sound. Voices and all mids and highs are natural without sounding airy or lifeless. The sound coming out of these is perceptibly superior! I listen to various sources of music, and these speakers do a fantastic job of any and all of it.

Compared to the Bose PC speakers: Save your money. The Bose PC speakers are very nice, but these ProMedias are hundreds less, and sound great! I've owned Bose products in the past and have no beef with them.

Do you need 4 or 5 or 7 speakers surrounding you and blasting you from every direction? OK. These aren't for you. For the rest of us they will wonderfully and effortlessly fill the room with rich, vibrant sound.

The speakers can disappear into your room - they're just black boxes with a grill cloth (except the little power light - a necessary evil, I suppose).

I recommend these Klipsch ProMedia 2.1s! I can't say enough good things about them. They're the best value available. Period!! You can't ask for a better sounding speaker system unless you're going to spend $600-$800 or more (and have a high end sound card, etc). The ProMedias cost less than $150 - usually around $110-130.

Rock the house!

I contacted mfgr's customer service and they tried to troubleshoot the problem including replacing the power unit, replacing the speaker wires and returning the subwoofer AT MY EXPENSE! When the subwoofer was returned it worked no better than before I returned it. All this took about two months to get nowhere. Finally I requested a replacement since speakers were under warranty. That was about three weeks ago and I got no response. This all started around April 1 and 2 1/2 months later I'm still waiting for resolution. There are more reliable speakers on the market at lower prices. Shop around and buy either Altec Lansing or Logitech for less money. You will be a lot happier.

This speakers are good for movies, games and music. They produce full rich sound. They will fare with other expensive speakers. They have excellent dynamic range and plenty of power. I really like them. Cold Eyes

5.0 out of 5 stars Go Pro-Klipsch!, January 6, 2009

Just want to offer my feedback on this speaker system which I've owned for over five years now. In short, the Klipsch PM 2.1 speaker set still sounds as good today as it did when I first pulled them out of the box back in '03. It has shown itself to be very reliable also, since I have had no amp issues at all as noted by a couple of other reviewers - perhaps because I have no need to really crank up the volume beyond a comfortable level (my study room is a bit on the smaller side). Hooking up the system to the computer is fairly straightforward - the assorted cables are easily identified because of the different end connectors on them. You do want to be careful with the DIN plug that goes into the back of the sub though, but once properly inserted you should have no need to touch it again.

I listen to practically all genres of music - vocal, instrumental, pop, jazz, classical, etc - and find that this system is very enjoyable to listen to and doesn't tire you out. The Klipsch PM 2.1 set also does well when watching the occasional DVD, though it probably gives up some impact if compared to a 5.1 system. In day-to-day usage, I have found that elevating the two-way satellites off the desktop a few inches gives the mid frequencies a little more presence. The sub, which I have sitting on a short step stool under the desk, provides quite a bit of punch, although it does tend to become a little muddy if you turn the bass volume switch too far past the factory recommended setting. There is also just a bit of boominess around the 100-120Hz frequencies, but is easily modified/corrected by using the computer's EQ (Apple/Mac's iTunes software is extremely helpful in this regard). These minor quibbles will not be a concern if you mostly use these speakers for gaming or movie special effects.

In summary, I have been more than satisfied with these speakers. Understanding that sound quality is so subjective in nature, I can in no way guarantee that the Klipsch PM 2.1 is the absolute best speaker set for your money, but I can confidently say that you could do a lot worse. Hope this review has been helpful to you. Peace.

2.0 out of 5 stars Loved Them Until I Threw Them Away, January 5, 2010

The Klipsch name has represented the finest in audio speakers for me since the early 1970s. It is no exaggeration to say I was thrilled to order these for my PC.

First off, the sub-woofer is heavy, as in you can't lean over the back of te workstation to pick it up. The satellites are as solid and well-constructed as any small speaker I've ever seen. The cables connecting the system were a little different than most PC 2.1 systems I've owned. Each speaker connects to the back of the sub-woofer through bare wires clipped into spring-loaded terminals. A DIN-plug (once the standard in any audio coming from Europe.) connects a control pod on one of the satellites and the audio from the PC into the sub-woofer. I had read complaints about the connecting wires that came with it but figured I'm a clever person and would be able to fix any problems that arose with wires.

The sound from this system is incredible. I didn't have a separate high-end sound card, only an on-board chipset and I was amazed. I haven't heard sound this good from any personal computer anywhere at any time. The highs are clean and crisp without turning harsh with volume, and the lows are more mellow and well-mixed than I expected. Thus began a love affair that I couldn't imagine ever ending.

Until about six months into our relationship, when one speaker or two or the entire system would cut out. Simple enough. I would reach around, trace the cables and *WHAM*, a huge pop, when I wiggled the DIN connector on the sub-woofer, and then the sweet music returned. Okay. Lesson learned. Don't move the wires! This became my mantra.

But it isn't quite that simple. This progressed until there wasn't enough wiggling to be done to fix the problem. I don't know if it was the connector or the cable but it got to the point where the sound was coming out of the Promedia less than a quarter of the time.

Finally, I turned it off. (No small feat that, working my way behind my workstation and fumbling for the power switch on the lowest point at the back of the woofer. When I found it, I never touched it, again. They went silent and sat there until I got motivated to move the entire workstation, unplug the tangle of wires and haul the whole mess to the trash.

You won't match the sound coming from these speakers, at least for a while. If I'd known I was going to end up throwing them away I'd have shopped for something lighter and more compact, so the whole system fit in one hand but, for a while there, we had a sweet, sweet thing going.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great sound but fatally flawed, December 2, 2009
This review is from: ProMedia 2.1 Personal Audio Sy (Personal Computers)
Really good sound... right up until they break, which in my case was about 3 minutes!

I bought these because they had by far the best sound:price ratio of the ones I could listen to in store at Best Buy.

Box #1 was an open box (several other open boxes were also in the store. made me go a little "hmmm, what's with the multiple returns on this item?" but I went with it for the sake of a 10% discount.)
Got it home, unpacked, set up - found out the two satellite speakers were both the one WITHOUT the input and volume controls. (Is this why the first person returned it and BB just put it right back on the shelf? or did BB swap a speaker from another box due to a broken one? Either way reflects badly on both Klipsch and BB)

Box #2 had all the right parts. The bass was a little more "thud" than actual distinguishable tone but for a set of computer speakers I paid only $115 AFTER tax, I was very happy! Then I repositioned the woofer a tiny bit. And that was enough to jiggle the cord connecting the satellite speakers loose. This cord had a big yellow tag on it warning you to plug it in only at a specific diagrammed angle to avoid possible damage (Way to abdicate responsibility for manufacturing a thing that easily breaks) I thought I had it at the exact right angle but i must have been off by 3 or 4 degrees because it didn't immediately go in and when i did get it in, one of my speakers no longer functioned.

Also, the power switch being on the back of the subwoofer, under my desk is a little stupid.

I'd like to believe this was an uncommon lemon. But reviews and first hand evidence suggest otherwise. No box #3 for me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound but Poorly Made, wont last..., October 5, 2010
This review is from: ProMedia 2.1 Personal Audio Sy (Personal Computers)
I really love the sound of these speakers but I've had problems. The pin connection to the sub woofer won't maintain a connection and the whole system is a loss. I spent some time researhing Klipsch on line and tryed to contact customer support. They won't acknowlede the countless complaints by thousands that their product faults. I would stay away from Klipsh products unless your handy with sodering tiny wires using a magnifying glass.
