Lift Hoist Pulley for Kayak,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: ProSource 125-Pound Heavy Duty Garage Utility Canoe and Kayak Storage Lift (Sports)
This product is OK for the price. All parts were included, instructions were good, this system raises my kayak as claimed. If I did this again, I would consider paying a higher price for a higher quality system that might include ball bearings to reduce the high force needed to raise my 50 lb kayak, better quality rope that does not abraid after only a few uses, and adjustable straps so the Kayak could be more easily raised to the ceiling without a long distance from the hooks to the kayak due to long straps.

Performs as Advertised,

I bought two of these for my kayaks. They work as advertised, but there are a couple of things to note:
The installation directions are not clear, but with some common sense, it can be installed safely. The recommended install method is to attach the lift to a 2x4 and attach the 2x4 to the ceiling. If you install the lift at a right angle to the studs in the ceiling, you will have to install it this way. We bought an 8 ft 2x4, lugs, and washers in addition to this kit for the installation. If installing using the 2x4 method, a second person and 2 ladders will be required. One person will have to hold the 2x4 up to the ceiling while the other uses a drill and lug to secure it to the ceiling. Be very careful when raising/lowering your kayak. Practice with the locking mechanism so you know what angle to pull the rope to ensure it locks when you are not pulling the rope, and ensure that all objects and people are clear of the kayak in case you do not lock the rope correctly and the boat falls (my kayak fell about 4 ft on the first try). Once you get the hang of it, it works fine. I recommend installing the rope cleat above the reach of children. To raise your boat high enough to walk or park a car under it, the straps will need to be shortened. The easiest way to do this is to rap one end of the strap around the hook until you have the desired length. I cannot see paying $100 for other similar products. This will do the trick. If you have problems with the rope fraying, the rope can easily be replaced for a low cost at your local home improvement store.

The Hoist was easy to install and did the job. Would prefer to have double pulleys to make it easier to lift.
