Amazing Calumet CF Card, June 8, 2009
This review is from: ProSpec UDMA 8GB 305x CompactFlash Card (Electronics)
What follows is not a technical review of this product but it is a true story.
Something happened recently that amazed me. I use a couple of 8 gb Calumet ProSpec UDMA cards with my 5d. When I get shooting I usually fill the first one and half the second one before I get back to my computer to download. So I like to keep the second card handy while I'm shooting with the first. I usually keep the second card in my camera bag but for a reason I can't remember I decided to put the second card in my pant pocket and then forgot about it.
The next day I went looking for the second card and could not locate it. I thought I even check my pant pocket but didn't locate it. I told my wife to keep an eye out for it since I had no idea where it had disappeared to.
My wife found it in the the cloths dryer along with the pants I had worn the day before. I guess I missed it when I looked. So this card card had been through the wash and dryer. I felt fairly sure it was a goner. After confirming that there was no water still inside the card I decided to drop it in my card reader. What I found amazed me. The card loaded up normally. I copied several file to the card as a test and all worked normally. I dropped a Quicktime movie on the card and continued to play the movie. Again performance was normal. So I decided to go for the ultimate test. I slid the card into my 5D, formatted it and started taking pictures. Preformed flawlessly. This surprised me and impressed me. This can't be normal.
I can say without a doubt that I'm completely sold on the Calumet ProSpec brand CF card. Let's hope this doesn't happen again but if it does I'm not going to panic.
