Book Description

Megan Silianoff, age twenty-eight, is the girl next door - assuming you live downtown Chicago. She is recently married, shops at Urban Outfitters, gets together with college friends for book club, and watches a lot of Rachels on TV (Rachel Zoe, Rachel Bilson, Rachel Green.)

In the fall of 2010, she undergoes routine surgery for a cyst on her ovary and wakes up to learn she has ovarian cancer. Horrified by the way her friends and family fall apart upon hearing the news, Megan realizes she has to keep it together for their benefit. She updates them through her blog about your ongoing prognosis (which includes a move to Houston,Texas) as well as her ensuing adoption saga (she names the baby after Jay Z), dishing details in a manner that is irreverent, informative, and hilarious.

99 Problems but a Baby Ain't One is a fun and entertaining memoir despite its traditionally somber subject matter. You'll probably cry when you read it, but only because you're laughing so hard.

Editorial Reviews

Review

This book is beautiful and hilarious. I laughed out loud on a regular basis - which burns calories so it's a weight loss book as well. --Lydia Criss Mays, Phd, Author of The Giving Me Series

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites! October 1, 2013

Author Megan Silianoff has made us laugh, reflect, grow, and most of all consistently see beautiful. In her hilarious and beautifully crafted memoir, Megan continues down her path of inspiring others through laughter and tears (NOTE: tears stream from laughter).

In her memoir (that we've already purchased 10 copies of and found it wasn't nearly enough), Megan Silianoff tells is like it is...well, if you're talking about cancer, adoption, and of course, Jay-Z. She has witty, brilliant stuff to say about meds, fashion, blogging, food and travel too.

This book is one that's near and dear to our hearts and left us seeing beautiful in so many ways. We were honored to feature it as our See Beautiful book of the month. Now you need it. You'll be proud to have it shining on your bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you can't laugh you cry September 30, 2013
Format:Paperback
As an Emergency room and ICU nurse I understand the stress and implications that go with a cancer diagnosis. However; my view is very different than what the patient goes through. I can only imagine the stress, fear and sadness my patients go through. Megan does an amazing job of bringing it to life. I am blessed I have never had to deal with all that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Megan not only brings it to a head, but puts an astonishing humor to it. As a nurse I use humor to disguise the true feelings that encompass disease, death and fear. It's a natural reaction that nurses use to deal with the daily sadness and fear of what our patients deal with on a daily basis. Megan so eloquently turns this fear and sadness into something we can all relate to. You know the saying, "If you cant laugh you cry"? well Megan does that in this book. From her trials and tribulations from Cancer to the process of adoption, she takes you through in a way that one can only make the best of situations. She went through hell and back, but whats different about her story is that she makes you laugh. Laughter is the only thing in my 12 years of nursing that makes this journey possible.

99 Problems but a Baby Ain't One contains a lesson that humor can play a powerful influence on attitude and outlook. Navigating treatment options and anxiety of cancer along with clearing the red tape of adoption aren't light hearted subjects yet I laughed pretty darn hard throughout this book. The combination of the author's perspective followed by comments posted on her blog made for a very entertaining read. Megan has both the gift of gab and the pen.
