Doody's Rating: * * *
Finally, a book discussing the merits of cosmetic skin care products based on scientific data has been published. The purpose of the various ingredients used in moisturizers, shampoo, botanicals, antioxidants, etc. is explained.

Clear analysis of the different strategies used to treat hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, increase collagen production, xerosis, etc., is presented. The authors are careful to be noncommittal in making specific recommendations.

All in all, I enjoyed the book and think that anyone with a cosmetic patient population would find reading it educational. It is quite informative compared to other books on the subject without bogging the reader down with bioengineering equations. I look forward to the next edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Resource for Physicians and Nurses and Technicians, June 8, 2011
By
Zoe Diana Draelos, MD has compiled an excellent quality book for physicians both new to the field of Cosmetic Dermatology and for those who have been in the field for some time. This Volume 1 deals with all of the currently popular (as well as a history of their development, pros and cons) that are in wide use today. Her writing style is comprehensive yet accessible to the reader. Every topic is accompanied by clear photographs of the lesions and their treatments. As an added benefit, there is a DVD that covers a number of the topics in the written pages of this book. The book is Volume 1 in the series LASERS AND LIGHTS and is the second addition - an improvement in every way over the first addition.

All medical books are priced high: the amount of work and photography a book like this demands such a price. What makes Draelos' book a step above the others is her willingness to share a large number of articles in a reference page at the end of each chapter - always a sign that the writer cars about the dissemination of correct information.
