Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Writing at the intersection of popular psychology and spiritual advice, Meninger describes forgiveness as a process that develops through five stages from "claiming the hurt" to wholeness. Forgiveness is not a matter of forgetting so much as it is a matter of letting go. He illustrates the process with reference to the popular "enneagram" model of personality types, then describes meditational tools for forgiveness grounded in monastic "centering" traditions and Eugene Gendlin's "focusing" technique. This is not a scholarly introduction to any of the traditions mentioned, but it will appeal to readers seeking a popular introduction to techniques for dealing with hurt. Steve Schroeder --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Forgiving, May 2, 2002
This review is from: Process of Forgiveness (Paperback)
With all the problems in the Catholic church at the moment, it was refreshing to go back and re-read Father William's book. He is an amazing story teller. Through his stories, one sees how forgiveness benfits the forgiver and is a necessary part of the healing process. The church should be giving copies of this book to all the abuse victims to help them find peace.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Route Map to Forgiveness, February 5, 2006
By
This review is from: Process of Forgiveness (Paperback)
This book has three parts. The first one contains a discussion of what forgiveness is, what it means for our lives and how it can be achieved. Albeit brief, this section provides an invaluable route map for whomever might be in need to overcome injuries of the past.

In my view, the second past is the less usable. It contains a general description of 9 fictitious characters and analyzes how forgiveness can help them in their lives. A little vague and simplistic, I think this section could have well been done without.

Finally, the excellent third part analyzes how prayer and, in particular, centering prayer, can help you to forgive and achieve a whole live. The writing is very clear in this section, despite dealing with very complex topics.

The book is openly Christian. Non-believers may have problems in following it.
