first, it must be noted that this product is difficult to review. it is being marketed as neotropic's latest album while it is apparently both a soundtrack and a short film.i first listened to the audio cd...seeing as i was under the impression it was primarily an audio release. even after repeat listening, i found myself disinterested and easily distracted. la porchaine fois, despite its track listing, contains little that would be defined as a song and nothing that can be discerned as an individual track. upon reading the cd sleave, the short film is given the limelight. so i was left believe that the recordings go-nowhere attitude was due to it really just existing as filler for the sensory gap left by the nature of film. upon viewing the film, i feel exactly and inversely the same about the film. it hasn't any plot, no message, no apparent goal at all, and seems to just fill the visual gap that exists with music. or it could be titled 'the blair witch students summer vacation' as it is almost entirely hand-held shots from the front seat of an automobile....very interesting (yawn). that said, i do not mean any disrespect. i have been a fan since she signed with ninja tune in '95. and i remain a fan (just not of this release). it is readily apparent that both audio and video portions of this release took talent and creativity. together they do manage to be greater than their sum of parts. and they were both done in her style of multi-layered, textured, and looped soundscapes. in the end, the whole package was as interesting as toilet paper. but the fact remains that her past efforts have been far more entertaining. ultimately, that is the failure, for regardless of what sub-sub-genre an artists muses in, the result will need an audience. and that audience is looking to be entertained.

I fisrt aquired Mr. Burbakers about 6 months ago, soon after 15 levels and now this. This is one of the most emotionally moving musical productions I have ever listened/viewed in my entire life. It comes with 2 cds, first the soundtrack, second the movie it was produced for.Might I say it was a perfect blend of sight and sound with the emotional undulation of falling in love. It is what I would consider a masterpiece. This is one you will want to own and listen/watch over and over again.

Between Mr. Brubakers, 15 levels of Magnification, and her latest La Prochaine Fois, she is one amazin artist. She works for me and I always enjoy her work. She just has to let me do a site for her and her outstanding works ;-).I was introduced by Neotropic due to my online nick and since I listen t IDM, Ambient ect, ect.. I was told to check it out, so I did and to my likings, first Album Mr. Brubakers, I fell in love with it. It has it's similarites, but not the same as Journeyman. WIld, abtracts and well done.

Psyche-Drone experimental minimalism - not much here,

Was and am a fan of Riz's preceeding works, that said there is little of that here. The funky downtempo, jazzy breakbeats, and warm fuzzy, well timed sample loops that made her so enjoyable to listen to before is non-existant here. It's one thing to progress, and quite another to genre hop off the dancefloor alltogether. The lively metro feel that surged with life and love, gave way to a non-melodic dissonant hanting soundscape of psche-drone. Just not my thing.

I didn't really 'get it',

First off, let me say that nothing bugs me more than people who rate an album as being poor because "it wasn't what I was expecting at all" based on an artist's past work. It's important that artists don't stagnate and do the same thing over and over again. This one just didn't click with me though as I felt there was very little to enjoy.
