4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Dog Hair!, December 8, 2004
This product is terrific for picking up dog hair. We have brand new hard wood floors and a golden retriever. It doesn't pick up larger items/sand/crumbs that may end up on the floor, but for hair and dust, this is great. It is terrific at getting in hard to reach places, under furniture, and in corners. I'm a neat freak and used to move out furniture at least once a week to vaccuum under it. This saves me that effort and gets under there to pick up the dust and dog hair!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good or bad, depending, July 8, 2006
By
I just bought the Swiffer starter kit, which contained the sweeper deal itself, two dry mops, and two wet mops. I'd heard good things about the whole package from people before, and finally I decided to break down and give it a whirl. In the interests of kitchen science (ha), I did a relatively controlled experiment, which produced mixed results.

First, I dry mopped my kitchen and bathroom floor with the Swiffer. My kitchen and bathroom are connected, and put together, the floor space equals less than most normal kitchens (I live in a smallish apartment). The tile is a little older and not quite as smooth, which added a bit more friction than would be expected on a brand-new linoleum floor. That notwithstanding, it did a good job, as the other reviewer said, of picking up the dust and relatively small particles. I went over the entire floor twice, being extra thorough, just in case, and then I waited about an hour. I spent that hour doing normal activity, cleaning the remainder of the kitchen, etc, and then I busted out my good old fashioned broom to sweep and see what the Swiffer had missed. I hadn't done anything overtly messy, but the broom still picked up a nice little pile, and it wasn't all big stuff. There was hair and dust and assorted other doodles in there.

So, as far as the dry-mop portion of the Swiffer is concerned, I would suggest either sweeping first and then using it afterwards to make sure all the dust and hair are gone, or vise versa. The former seems like it'd be the best, though. Though, depending on how obsessive you are about dust and hair, doing that could be considered a waste of money.

The wet-mop portion did ok, though it dried out after not much time. Again, that might have had something to do with my older floor, but still...I shouldn't have had to dump the little bit of liquid that had been left in the mop bag out onto the floor just to finish. So, maybe a good once over the floor with a 409-type cleaner first, just to make sure things don't dry out, would be in order. It certainly is nicer than a traditional mop, though; I'll grant it that.

Oh, and yes, the maneuverability of the contraption is quite handy, as well. It functions just like an ultra-mini dust mop, able to go almost completely flush with the floor to get underneath and behind things.

I guess I would say that, while a good old fashioned broom and mop will still do the trick just as well, they don't have the benefit of disposability. 'Course, that's the idea, isn't it?....always have to buy more refills ;)

3.0 out of 5 stars Swiffer Sweeper, February 25, 2008
By
I really like the Swiffer Sweeper. It's great for those times you don't want to vaccum or sweep with a regular broom. It's great for pet hair and light dirt. Very light and able to get under the couch. Perfect for those last minute sweeps before guest arrive!
