The two 5-1/2-by-1-1/8-inch slots in this toaster are large enough to accommodate thick bread, bagels, English muffins, and waffles. Equipped with a microchip "brain," the toaster adjusts timing to account for whether it's hot from previous use or startup-cool, so toast comes out just the way it's supposed to. A "toast-boost" feature ensures small slices are lifted high enough to be removed safely and easily. A "cancel" setting permits a change of mind or time, and a "defrost" setting allows items direct from the freezer to be warmed before they are toasted. Five other settings provide various degrees of browning to suit personal tastes. For safety, the toaster shuts off automatically when toasting time elapses, even if toast jams. It measures 6-1/2 inches wide, 6-3/4 inches high, and 10 inches deep, and the bright, plastic, stay-cool exterior wipes clean with a damp cloth. --Fred Brack

The Proctor Silex 22445 works fine. It's a reliable, unobtrusive kitchen device. It's somewhat hard to clean, but, to be fair, no worse than average.It toasts evenly, and it's pretty affordable. It's a toaster- whaddya want?

Save your receipt. You might want to send this one back. We took our brand new toaster out of the box and made our first piece of toast. It was uneven from front to back. We tried again and got the same results. By the third attempt the toast came out golden brown on the upper right corner, too light on the lower right corner, burnt on the left side, and when we flipped it over it was raw on the back. It's going back to the store tomorrow. What a waste of time.
