5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BRAVE LITTLE TOASTER JUST MIGHT LAST FOREVER BUT BE CAREFUL: IT'S HOT
IN A NUTSHELL: WE HAVE USED THE MODEL #22205 DAILY SINCE 1997

The model 22205 is almost an exact twin of the model offered here, except it was offered for sale to us in 1997. We have 5 children and this brave little toaster has seen alot of service since 1997 without a single problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars can't pop up toast before it's done
Beware! Once you've selected the "shade" of how you want the toast, and depress the lever, the only way you can get it to stop earlier is to unplug it!! I hate that aspect. I keep my bread in the freezer, so it takes longer to toast. The first time I used it, I set it for too dark. The toast started burning. I tried pushing up on the lever like you would to most...

I tried pushing up on the lever like you would to most toasters, but nada! I had to unplug it to make it stop. Very poor design. Other than that, I like it. It's not only wide enough for bagels, but long enough for Branola or Orowheat bread, which not all
toasters are. I plug this into a surge surpressor now, so if it needs to come out early, I trip the surpressor, and the toast pops up.

WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT: 900 WATTS - WHITE ENAMEL FINISH - CRUMB TRAY

We have used and overused this little appliance and while 5 coffee makers and 3 'Foreman Grills' have worn out this toaster keeps toasting just like it always has.

CAUTION: HOT TO THE TOUCH

Like toasters of old, this one is hot to the touch with only thin metal and white baked enamel between your fingers and the red hot nichrome filaments that are powered by 900 watts of electricity. Actually, it was the 900 watts versus 7-800 watts of other toasters that got me to buy this in the first place. It even has a crumb bin! Well, 9.5 years and counting, but soon we may want to replace it for a 'cool-touch', though I think we will always keep this brave little toaster around for sentimental reasons.

If you're looking for a good toaster then look no further. It's incredible how hard it is to find a good toaster. Anyone reading the user reviews on Amazon can vouch for that! I read many reader reviews and in terms of reader saticfaction and price [anything over $30 for a 2 slice toaster is pushing it in my opinion] I decided to purchase this toaster and I'm glad that I did! It's small, streamlined and fits with my decor. The bread toasts like it's supposed to, period!

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid this Cool Wall model 22605, very uneven toasting., March 29, 2008
Unlike the US-made toasters of bygone days that browned both sides equally, if this toaster is adjusted to do one side right it leaves the other side hardly toasted at all. If you set it for a longer time to get the light side done right then the other side gets burned. I don't see how it could do otherwise because if you look down into the slots at the heating elements, you can see that they are more numerous and closely spaced on the outside walls than on the inner. I don't understand how an old appliance company could do such bad engineering - I can only suppose that they don't use their own products now that they are made in China.

5.0 out of 5 stars HEY, I WOULD BUY IT AGAIN, REALLY LIKE IT, May 27, 2008

Was searching for a white toaster (white is the ''theme'' of my kitchen...peaceful) and could not find one at any local retail stores. Decided to try amazon and selected this no-frills white toaster by Proctor-Silex (model 22605). It's just outstanding, esp. for the price. The size is comfortingly ergonomic and pleasant to the eye, it's easy to handle (when not in use, I keep it in a cabinet), easy to shake crumbs out of and if you are only toasting, say, 2 slices of bread (and yes, it will accommodate bagels), it doesn't get too hot on the outside. But I am not addressing the main point of a toaster: to toast. Yes, it even manages to do that function very well. The dial is not numbered but has oval impressions you can select. Usually, I use the 3rd position impression. Very pleased because the bread comes out ''just right'' equally on each side, to me it is toasted not only in taste but also in appearance. A great value. Used to buy all the ''bells and whistles'' but as time goes on, I go for the best quality for the main function. Surprised at how often that method leads to great results. Well, in my opinion, you can't go wrong with this selection. I guess the only drawback would be if you did not want for whatever reason the color white.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit slow ., December 11, 2007

Later I found the same toaster at a large retail store for 9$ (which was a sale price ) . It is a ok toaster I only have one problem with it. It replaced a extreamly old toster which toasted much quicker. Its slow . I think the reason is the toast holes are big so they can hold a bagel and I only toast sliced bead. So all the heat rushes out .

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful quality, July 21, 2008

This toaster is a such a piece of junk that Amazon should be ashamed to sell it. The center heating panels contain only half of the heating elements that the side panels do. What that means is that the toaster won't toast bread with one cycle even on the darkest setting. If you use two cycles, the bread dries out so much that it resembles Melba Toast. In short, buy a different toaster.

4.0 out of 5 stars AFTER FIVE YEARS, STILL GOING STRONG, SO KEEPING THIS FOR NOW AFTER TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING NEWER/BETTER, February 2, 2010

This review is from: Proctor Silex 22605 2-Slice Toaster (Kitchen)
I'm writing this review out of frustration re: trying to find a new toaster, and we're now going to keep this one, and you may want to give it a try, too. To wit: We bought this for a little over $10 at a mass market store more than five years ago. It's still going strong. Biggest drawback is that it's a bit slow, but you learn to time that while getting other things done in the kitchen. Toasts pretty evenly, the selector dial is dependable to get the done-ness you want. For english muffins, a second toasting can be needed, but it is even. We just tried an Oster and returned it, toasts one side black if you get the other side even slightly brown. Same with a Cuisinart that we returned from Christmas. It's really a jungle out there trying to find a decent toaster for under $100. And, btw, re: other reviewers' comments: you can force the toast up if you want to, it just takes a little effort, and after five years of doing it, the handle shows no signs of breaking from the pressure.

Today's manufacturing being what it is, I suppose you can always get a bad one, but if you get one that works, this is a fine little toaster. BTW: Be sure to empty the crumb tray once in a while, as it actually does keep the crumbs in, and if you get a big pile going, that can affect toaster performance. IN SUM: If this toaster toasted a bit faster, I'd give it five stars. And until we have at least $100 in the budget for a new toaster, we've stopped looking and will keep this little gem. The exterior of ours is a little worn looking, doesn't really fit in with the rest of our brushed steel/chrome counter appliances, which is why we decided to look for a new one, but it toasts dependably well, which is more than I can say for those last two $50+ models we tried.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Proctor Silex 22605 2-Slice Toaster (Kitchen)
This toaster, given a "Best Buy" rating on Consumer Reports, was a piece of manure. It never toasted evenly, felt cheaply made, burned toast when set on low, and eventually, after only a few months, started sparking and then quit completely. It is currently in our garbage can. Avoid - cheap is NOT always good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Picture is not correct toaster model, November 13, 2007

This review is from: Proctor Silex 22605 2-Slice Toaster (Kitchen)
I purchased this because the picture shows the toaster I have had for the last 4 years which worked really well. But the toaster I received is different. The actual 22605 toaster is shown on Amazon under the listing "Proctor Silex Cool-Wall Toaster". It has a rounded top and does not have the three wavy lines design next to the words Proctor Silex. The one pictured here is actually model 22205 and Amazon does not sell it anymore. I returned the 22605: it was flimsier than my old one, the electric heating wires were dented, and it was hard to push the toast up manually. Felt like it would have broken quickly. Gave it three stars cause it did toast the bread and what do you expect for $12.
