5.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLE AND RELIABLE
I'm not sure what would ever posess a person to spend more than $25 bucks or so on a toaster. Really what perks do you need. It's the most simple appliance in your home and it does one thing: toast bread. You find one that is reliable and you use it to death. So this is the best one to go with. A good sized four slice toaster, wide enough for bagels or Texas Toast...

2.0 out of 5 stars not great
i bought this toaster after reading the amazon reviews. however, i am returning it after trying it out. the main problem is that the piece that supports the bread is very thin. so if you are toasting something narrow, like a frozen waffle, it can slide down below the support, and then you have to unplug the toaster and fish it out with a fork.

I'm not sure what would ever posess a person to spend more than $25 bucks or so on a toaster. Really what perks do you need. It's the most simple appliance in your home and it does one thing: toast bread. You find one that is reliable and you use it to death. So this is the best one to go with. A good sized four slice toaster, wide enough for bagels or Texas Toast. Four slots and quick toasting mean you can make a mountain of toast fast. Unlike some toasters the heat settings actually mean something. Light means light...dark means...well, you know. Removable tray for dropping the crumbs in the garbage. That's really all the bells and whistles you need. This looks good and cleans up with a wipe of a wet cloth. A real workhorse! This is a great working item that will last you years and it's at a value price. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars More time for coffee, September 11, 2004
This review is from: Proctor Silex 24450 4-Slice Cool-Touch Toaster, White (Kitchen)
Breakfast used to be such a chore. Three people waiting for their toast, which my old two slot toaster either refused to release until burnt, or flung out half done as if from an ejector seat.

Recently, I decided that enough was enough, and brought home this magical machine for a test run.

Now I can impress them by toasting not only slices of bread, but muffins, bagels, waffles and toaster pastries, all without doing myself or others bodily harm. And the great part is, I can do FOUR at a time. No more waiting, and lots more time for me to have my morning cuppa in peace.

It looks great in the kitchen, so even if you don't like toast you should get one anyway as a decoration. Outstanding features are the cool touch sides, the handy eject button to stop toasting at any time, and easy cleaning by way of two slide out crumb trays. No more fumbling with catches at the bottom, or turning the whole thing over and spanking it over the sink. You also have two choices of settings for your toastables, one for the left side pair and one for the right side pair - handy if somebody likes medium and somebody else likes nearly burnt.

This toaster is a wonder gadget, and a time saver when you're feeling toasty.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased with this toaster, January 23, 2005
This review is from: Proctor Silex 24450 4-Slice Cool-Touch Toaster, White (Kitchen)
I did some Internet research for toasters and could not find any with consistently high customer ratings, even the expensive brands. My Black and Decker toaster oven's toast feature has gotten so incredibly slow that I wanted a new toaster. So rather than purchase an expensive toaster, I chose the Proctor Silex Cool Touch model. I am happy to say that this was a wise choice! For 19.99 I got a 4 slice toaster with independent levers so you can toast one or two slices of bread at a time if desired. Also, the pull out crumb tray is an important and nice additional feature which sold me on this model. The slots are wide and bagels can easily fit in. This toaster also toasts the bread evenly and in record time! I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this model to anyone looking for a reasonably priced toaster.

This review is from: Proctor Silex 24450 4-Slice Cool-Touch Toaster, White (Kitchen)
Bought this toaster largely on the Consumer Reports/reviews here and sure wish I hadn't. Two reasons: one, the slots are very short, only about 5 1/4 inches. I bake all the bread for our family using 5 inch wide pans, and because I get good volume, I have to trim off the side edges to get a slice into the slot. This is a pain. I suppose I could rewrite all my recipes for smaller pans, or buy my bread at the supermarket, but why should I? Second problem: at the darkest setting the toast comes out slightly tanned, not brown. I could run it through the toaster again, but again, why should I? I shouldn't have to change my whole life to suit my toaster. My old toaster, a Hamilton Beach, had nice 6 inch slots and produced lovely toast (from my same homemade bread) at a medium setting. It lasted more than two years, too, which is about a year longer than any other toaster I've bought in the last 20 years. I'm buying another Hamilton Beach and marking the Proctor-Silex "opened by mistake,"

If you want a toaster, this would be the one to get. It does what it's supposed to do, and I am very satisfied with this machine. Don't hesitate to buy this toaster.

I was looking forward to replacing my old toaster, which takes too long to produce toast. I was very disappointed in this toaster. The first thing I tried to toast - a relatively small slice of oval marble rye - was too long to fit in the toaster. Unless you only toast round or square things, like bagels and white bread, you are going to have to cut off the end of the bread. I'm going to go back to a toaster that has two extra long slots.

Having owned many toasters in my 41 years of marrage, we usually purchased the cheapest ones we could find. This time we searched the consumer reports and found that this toaster was rated very highly by the testers as a "Best Buy". After having it for a few months I have to agree. It is accurate with its settings, delivering the same level of toast, waffles, and English muffins very time. The push down levers lock securely every time, plus after they pop up they can be pulled up further to assist in removing the toasted items. It is a great value!

Perfectly adequate toaster at a good price. Toasts evenly and well, although a little slowly. Great value.
