OK for the money, December 28, 2007
This review is from: Proctor Silex 31115 4-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler, White (Kitchen)
Obviously, you can't expect a terrific/high quality product for the price of the PS 31115. It will make toast, though you will have to listen to a rather loud timer clicking until completion. The biggest negative is the poor interior design which grossly limits the available vertical space between the rack and the heating filament, which means that you will be fine with toasting or heating a flat slice of bread and/or other item, however, if it comes to a roll or anything approximating even 3" in height, it will be burned or scorched. There are only two heating filaments (one on top & one on the bottom), so heat distribution is not as even as one would like in a unit of such relatively large depth. It generates tremendous heat which almost instantly radiates to the exterior of the rather thin shell, so care must be taken to not accidentally touch the unit during or right after operation...In sum, if you are looking for an inexpensive appliance to make toast and heat/cook flat items this seems like a good value. If you are looking for an "oven" to cook/warm-up even remotely sizeable objects, get something else.

I am real happy with this oven, October 8, 2005
This review is from: Proctor Silex 31115 4-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler, White (Kitchen)
This little toaster oven gets the job done for me. I think the quality is a little bit better, it is a little deeper making it a little bigger and the tempeture is more consistant than the other units in it's price range. I am still looking for the right setting on the tempeture and once I find it I will most likely leave it there. I think it will end up somewhere between 350 and 400. Below that takes to long and above that setting the food tends to get a little over cooked on the outside.
One thing that concerned me was the safety instructions, which I always read. They do not want you to use aluminum foil or any non Proctor Silex cooking trays in this unit. I always use aluminum foil and it does not seem to cause any problem. Perhaps they are just covering for themselves in case something goes wrong because you never know what sort of crazy stuff people are going to put into their ovens. This is the only thing that concerns me. Otherwise the little oven is working out real good. I think it will last us quite a while. Usually we get rid of them because they get to dirty or get a little old looking more then it is a problem that they wear out or break. The last one cost us about $10 and lasted almost a year. This one cost a little more but I am sure it will last longer.
We have had expensive confection ovens that cost well over $100 but I decided to save my money because this one gets the job done and does what we need it to do. Esp with the extra 2 inches of depth this is a nice sized little unit.

Solid and sturdy, it does what you want a toaster oven to do., March 23, 2006

Broil, toast and bake. Those are the three things I look for my toaster to do. It does all of them just fine. I like the bottom crumb pan which helps to keep those nasty burnt crumobs from ruining your toaster.
