Incredible,
This review is from: Proctor Silex 58130R 8 Speed Blender
I have never reviewed a product on amazon, and do not foresee myself reviewing another any time soon. After three years of daily use however, I feel this product deserves recognition. I prepare smoothies- ice smoothies- for breakfast every single morning of the year. I initially purchased this blender as a temporary solution while searching for the perfect stainless steel replacement that would complement the rest of my kitchen accessories as soon as this one had burnt its puny little putt putt motor out... or so I thought. Weeks later, this Proctor Silex 58130R was still crushing ice like the day I purchased it. Months passed and it showed no sign of slowing down, no signs of weakness. Years have now gone by now- three years- and I am still using the same blender. Not once has it leaked; not once has the motor overheated; not a single piece of it is worn down, broken, or needs replacement despite over 1000 daily uses crushing whatever I stuff into its durable, aesthetically unobtrusive body- and believe me, I am not easy on it. You know what? I'll admit it.. I might even say I'm rough on it- hoping to "accidentally" break the slightest piece off and finally have an excuse to purchase that shiny new Blendtec or Kitchenaid. But it won't give in- and I'm not breaking either. I'm going to keep running this machine into the ground every day and seeing how long it can stand the abuse.
If you are looking for an unobtrusive piece of equipment that will crush and blend whatever you throw at it without a single sign of wear or tear after years of constant abuse- look no further. Bravo, Proctor Silex. I underestimated you.

The best cheap blender out there!,

I bought this blender to bring to work, and of course the cheap price is what attracted me (since I was leaving it there). I make supplement shakes every day for lunch with frozen fruits in it. This blender makes the best shakes BY FAR! I have a $150 Cuisinart blender at home, and even that does not compare to how smooth and fast this blender works. Another nice thing is that the blade is a part of the container which makes it very east to clean. This blender is fantastic!

What They Don't Tell You,

I purchased this blender after reading the glowing reviews by other customers. However, what they and the information on Amazon don't tell you is that you must use a MINIMUM of 10 ounces of liquid whenever you blend anything. If you try, as I did, to just puree a cup of blueberries with a little honey, the blueberries fly to the side of the jar and stay there. No puree. The bottom of the jar on this blender is very wide, unlike blender jars with a narrow bottom, as I've had before. When the bottom is narrow, the food necessarily gets next to the blades and is chopped, pureed, etc. I've done the same amount of blueberries in other blenders without a problem. But with this blender, the food stays away from the blades, all around the sides of the bottom of the jar unless you use a large portion of liquid. My blender mayonnaise came out runny, unlike with my cheap $20 blender I bought at Walmart. I blend food for my mom three times a day, so blenders get a real workout in our house. I was so hopeful this would be a really good one. So if all you want to make is smoothies, it might work for you, but otherwise, avoid this blender!! And with a 20% restocking fee if you try to return it, plus shipping, it's not even worth returning. Don't waste your time and money.

It's a good little blender, but not so great at crushing ice. Haven't used it that much yet, but it's a good product.

Another landfill product,

I had a similar experience with the Black & Decker Crushmaster, if you wish to read more detail there. Both this blender and the crushmaster have one of the gears (where the container fits onto the base) that is actually made of a soft material that feels like a cross between rubber and plastic. This to me means the manufacturer had no intention for this product to last and in fact specifically designed it to wear out as soon as possible. For working parts like gears to be made of anything other than metal is ridiculous. Although this blender is still running (even though it is getting bits of black rubbery material caught in the base as the metal gear grinds through the plastic rubbery gear over time) it performs poorly as the blades are not very sharp and sit too high, so some food tends to go beneath the blades and not get blended. You have to run it for a very long time to get through everything, and on ours the motor is running not so smoothly, so the blended material gets thrown upwards more than normal - make sure you keep the lid on tight! There's lots of cheap 'made in china' products out there, but these manufacturers have really sunk low. This type of design, where the product seems planned to fail with such incredibly cheap gears, is a waste of the earth's resources and hard on the environment.

Wow. What a piece of junk this "blender" is. When I tried to use it last night it chopped up the veggies I put into it, but would not blend or puree anything. I actually put the veggies in my food processor to get them more finely blended.
This piece of junk blender only mixes things into coarse chunks. The blades are not sharp, and you have to run it for an extremely long time before it even mixes what you put in it. I went and checked the other reviews of each person who left a positive review here because Proctor Silex would have to pay me SERIOUS money to say ANYTHING positive about this item. I wish I had bought it offline somewhere, I would definitely return it. PLEASE don't waste your time or money! |
