Does the job! great price!,

Ok .. I could have bought a Kitchenaid for a lot more money, that's the brand all my friends who have these recommended.
However, influenced by the price (12 bucks and change) and the reviews of other users, I bought this one. I'm not dissappointed at all! Works great! So far I've used it to make smoothies and puree soups. In no time at all I had a nice smooth consistency for the smoothies and the soups took only a few minutes. Cleans up much easier than my standard blender, not to mention the time saved transferring things into the blender. Also, I like that the guard portion surrounding the blade is not metal, I have a few enameled cast iron pieces of cookware that a metal guard would scratch. You don't always have to pay top dollar to get something that performs well.

A lot of bang for your buck,

I can't believe this hand blender is as inexpensive as it is. I've had mine for a year and it works perfectly. I've made cream of carrot soup with it, frostings, pudding, mashed potatoes, salsa and salad dressings. It has worked flawlessly for me. It's easy to use and cleaning it is a snap.

Amazing,

This little blender works better than my regular blender. I use it to make protien shakes and I like to add some crushed ice. I was afraid it wasn't going to mix the ice and I was going to have chunks like I get with my big blender but this little gadget mixed everything. For the first time I got to enjoy a smooth frosty shake without having to chew it. Very happy with this product.

Careful! Blade fragments in your blended stuff!,

Hi. I actually like the narrow shape and feel of these, so after my first one broke, I tried another. It lasted 3 months and just now broke.
The WAY it breaks is what I wish to warn you about. In both cases, this model failed by having the blender blades shatter and fragment in what I was blending. And I wasn't blending anything very hard, either. It seems the blade material used is a lot more brittle than it should be. What this means is large sharp shards of metal in the stuff you're mixing. Fortunately, in both cases for me I was mixing something clear, and was able to see it. Had I been blending something opaque like a fruit smoothie, I might have swallowed a dangerous piece of metal or choked on it. The one that just broke left half of one of the blades in my drink, very sharp and dangerous looking... I feel I dodged a bullet by not swallowing it earlier today when I mixed a milkshake-type protein shake and chugged it. That blade WOULD NOT have passed safely through a GI tract. That's the same thing that happened with my first one, and the reason I'm taking the time to leave this review. So to sum up, this is a nice little blender that might kill you or your loved ones. Caveat Emptor.

My protein shake recipe:
2 scoops Optimum Nutrition chocolate protein isolate 2 cups Silk soy milk 1 Tbsp Peter Pan peanut butter 15 grams walnuts 1 Banana 1/2 cup plain oatmeal 1-2 ice cubes Why did I list my recipe? Because it grinds all that into a smooth, chocolatey heaven 2-3 times per day for me without fail. And cleanup time takes 10 seconds, just wash under the faucet. The price is unbelievable and the quality amazes me.

Don't expect more than basic immersion blender functions! It's one of my favorite gadgets in my kitchen. I use it for pureeing for soups, scrambling larger amounts of eggs so they're light and fluffy, mixing puddings and jello, whipped cream, some less chunky smoothies. I occasionally do mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes, but after butter, milk and whatever other stuff is added and in a deep bowl or can be a mess. Lots of uses!
However, don't expect it to do more hard core kitchen things and replace a blender and/or food processor. It doesn't (effectively IMO) mash up some types of big, chunky fruit especially frozen, chop nuts, certainly not ice! For that stuff you're going to need to spend more than $12.99 and get a wazoo style, more powerful and maybe with attachments. Serious bang for your buck though! I've had mine for 2 years and have used it a lot!

Other reviews are correct about the on/off button. You do have to hold in the button, and it is very pointy. I simply put a pad on the button (like one that is on your cupboard doors so they don't bang shut), and it works great. Unit is good for everyday blending.
FYI: The manual for the blender specifically says not to run the blender for more than 1 minute at a time (as is typical with most blenders). It specifically says not to use it for crushing ice (don't know why you would think this would work anyways). The downer for me, it says it is not intended to beat egg whites. I didn't know that about hand blenders, so that is a bummer since that is one of the reasons I purchased a hand blender.

Only for SMALL pots/bowls; can only be immersed 4 inches. Does not separate (like the Braun models). As a result, the blender cannot be put into a dishwasher for real cleaning. Spend a bit more, get a better model.

good work, but no comfort,

I like the working quality of this blender - it cuts fast and turns food into smooth pure. Easy to clean is a plus also. Only problem is comfort - it's too big for my grip and it's difficult to push button all the time. Blender will be ideal if Proctor Silex changes button into svich ON/OFF unit (like in regular mixer).
