spend a little more for a better mixer,

this is clearly a case of "you get what you pay for". for easy jobs this mixer works fine, but give it a thick batch of brownie mix or cookie dough and the motor will just die

Rusty Beaters?,
This review is from: Proctor Silex 62515 5-Speed Easy Mix Hand Mixer, White (Kitchen)
I received this a shower gift a few years ago. Standard mixer, can't do anything too drastic with it, but I noticed the last time I took the beaters out of the dishwasher they had rusted. These are not stainless beaters and they will rust. I'm in the market for a new mixer.

A piece of junk and no customer service,
This review is from: Proctor Silex 62515 5-Speed Easy Mix Hand Mixer, White (Kitchen)
I bought this Proctor Silex mixer because I needed something fast and we live in a small town so I bought this at the local Family Dollar store. It was under $15 and I did not expect much but I did expect it to work more than a few times without dying and burning up right in the middle of a recipe. The thing practically caught on fire. We couldn't get the burning smell out of the house for hours. I emailed Proctor Silex which is actually Hamilton Beach. At first, they were acting like they were going to do something. Then they emailed me for the product number and series number. When I sent that, they said they could do nothing without a receipt and that without a receipt they would assume I had the mixer for over 6 months. They told me to cut the cord off the mixer and dispose of it in a safe manner. HAHAHAHAHA. I wrote and asked them if there was a danger in a burned up mixer turning back on by itself? I received no response on this one. Don't buy this product. It will not even last through a simple icing recipe. I am thinking of setting up a website just to tell people not to buy Proctor Silex/Hamilton Beach products. What a waste of money!

Good for the price,

You get what you expect for the price. It doesn't feel solid and slows down when the going gets tough but works well for a small kitchen and for people that aren't cooking for more than 4.

If you need a mixer to make standard items like cake, cookies, pie filling and crusts, this is a good mixer to have. It has 5 speeds and is easy to clean.

surprised,

Wow! I'm really surprised at all the bad reviews this got. I bought one of these 10 years ago for $5 to do small jobs (making whip cream, pancakes, cakes, eggs)and it is just now starting to sputter and have problems. In looking for a new one I've been shocked to see all the problems people have had with it. We have used ours 3+ times a week for the last 10 years and never had a problem. We have a professioinal kitchen aid mixer now but sometimes its just easier to use the small procter silex. I have also never had any rust issues as I see someone complained about. My beaters are still as shiny as the day I bought 'em. All this makes me wonder if maybe they were just making them better 10 years ago. I think I'll go ahead and buy another one because I just cant believe they can have gone so downhill. I may be back to change my rating for the new one but as of now, I'm a big fan!

Bought this mixer for 15 dollars at a local Duane Reade store. First time I used it to mix a cake batter, it slowed down, sputtered, and died. The motor has burnt out and it won't ever recover. Thanks for taking my 15 dollars, Proctor Silex!

Junk, broke after after a few uses,
This review is from: Proctor Silex 62515 5-Speed Easy Mix Hand Mixer, White (Kitchen)
This mixer is junk. While it did a reasonable job at first, the cheap plastic interior holding the beaters in place broke after a few dozen uses. You get what you pay for!

I was in need for a cheap mixer, for thanks giving, this is the exact model that I got from target. I was surprised what this mixer could do, for only being 125 watts. It did handle great too. I was mixing a big batch of oatmeal cookies for my big 14 people feast, when the motor died. I started out smoothly, trying not to put too much pressure on the already struggling motor. I dont know what I did, but the mixer kept slowing down slower and slower untill it rest at a real slow speed, where the beaters almost weren't moving, and I could tell that the motor was burning, for my hand on the handle could feel the heat. I could also feel the sputtering of the motor. I unplugged it, and plugged it back in, even though it was still burning, and tried again. The beaters still looked as if they weren't moving. Then there was a POP! Smoke and a horrid smell were coming through the front vents. I was mad that I couldn't finish the cookies, yet at the same time, I feel bad that everything I do breaks something :( I guess I shouldn't expect cheap stuff to do heavy jobs.

I bought a new kitchenaid brand hand mixer and it wouldn't get lumps out of cake mixes and other things. I guess it is because of the new prong beater style. So I wanted to find a mixer with the standard kind of beats. I found this one. I like this hand mixer because it is light weight and mixes better than the kitchenaid one. Not sure if would stand up to alot of mixing over and over again, but for a cake or something every now and then it works great. I may be wrong. I also purchased the Proctor Silex 62535 hand mixer to see what the difference and that one is also light weight and seems very powerful. I like the 62535 hand mixer better but am keeping both so I have a back up. I think the 62515 would be good for older adults and people like me that can't lift heavy things do to an illness or disease.
