GREAT coffee maker! UPDATED,
By Cory "Cory" (Norman, OK United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ProctorSilex 42114 Single-Serve Pod Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I got this as a Christmas present. I chose it because it is the only single-serve coffeemaker I could find to do both the pods and ground coffee. It works great and clean up is a breeze. The parts are small enough that I can stick them in my basket in the dishwasher.
I also love the fact that it has a re-usable filter for the ground coffee. I also like that it is the same size as a regular coffeemaker instead of huge and bulky like the one I got from Gevalia. It is also not any noisier than a traditional coffeemaker, something that is much appreciated here. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because it will not accomodate taller coffee mugs. That is my only complaint! Update 6 months later: I've had to get rid of it. It started leaking everywhere and the coffee tasted bitter. I cleaned it thoroughly with vinegar several times and that helped the taste a bit but not enough. It was the leaking that really was annoying, I'd have to clean up coffee every time I used it. This thing needs a drip tray!

I just got it today and I don't have any pods yet but I am glad it comes with a filter to use your own coffee. It works great but it takes 3.5 minutes to make a cup which I can live with but my biggest disappointment is that it only holds 4" high cups. Most of my cups a 4.5". Check your cup size you have if this isimportant to you.

I needed a single cup coffee maker for my home office. This is wonderful! I used the pods as well as regular coffee with the filter included with the coffee maker. It makes wonderful coffee.

Why did I try Proctor-Silex again??,

After me first coffeemaker began leaking- and it was a realtively new proctor-silex 12 cup maker- I decided to try one of these "cute" single serve ones. Why, oh why did I purchase this brand?? First, it does take around 3-4 minutes to brew a single cup of coffee or tea. This seems like a longer time than most. And now, after 2 or 3 frustrating weeks, it's leaking just like the old one did. Not user error, as the water comes from underneath the coffeemaker. Also, the coffee is not coming out as hot either, which causes me to wonder if it's the heating element... Even though this one can use loose grounds or pods, it is not worth the frustration! Try a different brand. My sister-in-law has really enjoyed her Sensao!

Awesome Value,
This review is from: ProctorSilex 42114 Single-Serve Pod Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
This little pod maker is a good bargain. I shopped around for a one cup pod machine because it seems to be the fad at work. Everyone is 'one cupping' tea or coffee and I wanted to join the club. So I looked at all the expensive ones and saw alot of complaints. Anyway I've had one of these for about 4 months - no problems and no complaints about what pods it takes. There's room in the pod holder - not like some of the more expensive ones where it smooshes the pod into a specifically sized metal area. You can stack two pods in for a stronger cup. I've used the grocery store pods - folgers or millstone I believe. However you MUST try javapodz. The mocha cinnamon swirl is the best flavor. They are for sale through Amazon and their own site.
If you want a pod coffemaker and don't want to pay Senseo prices this is the one for you! I've just ordered my second one so I can have one at home.

Excellent single serve coffeemaker,

After reading several reviews on other single serve coffeemakers I was discouraged. I was thinking there no good single serve coffeemakers out there. But I found one with my Procter Silex!
I works very well. No leaking. I like the fact that I don't need the pods. I can just use the coffee grounds I buy for my 12 cup pot. I did notice that if I don't take a coffee filter and put it in the coffee filter tray (that comes with it) I have some small coffee particles from the coffee grounds that get through their filter. It may not bother you but I didn't like that so I just fold a regular coffee filter down to size and line their filter. So my coffee is actually going through 2 filters. But I figure coffee filters are not that expensive. It is sold for a good price and works great for those days you may only want 1 or 2 cups of coffee. No more coffee waste and no more burnt coffee!!

Absolutely horrible!,

Absolutely horrible! The worst $20 I've every spent. This machine is an absolute waste of money. I have had this machine fore 2 weeks and still have not found a cup small to fit it, they are all either too wide or too tall. A total headache when your rushing out to work.

This is just what I was looking for. I only drink 1 or 2 cups a day. I have a small electric hand grinder and use whole beans and distilled water (no mineral build up). No muss or fuss and I like that it shuts off automatically after brewing. Pour the water in slowly with the provided measuring cup or you will slop over.

I am really enjoying this coffeemaker. It makes a very good cup of coffee using coffee grounds and the permanent filter is very easy to rinse out and clean. When using coffee pods it is less effective as I have found I need to use 2 per 10 ounce cup of coffee otherwise it tastes like hot water. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this to others.

I love this product. First, it's much cheaper than other single cup brewers, and this one will let you use any brand of pod so that you can buy what's on sale. I also like that it has the option of using pods or grounds - I haven't seen others that can do this. I have one on my desk at work (that others use, too) and one at home for that one cup at night when I don't want to make an entire pot (no more wasted coffee at my house anymore!). One of my co-workers was so impressed that she bought one, too. I've had both of mine for over a year, and they have each been used several times a week and still make a delicious cup of coffee every time. I still can't get over the price. I would agree that the only drawback is that some of my mugs don't fit, but most of them do.
